nerd metal is a great description. Their lyrics are on par with the levels of absurdity of Led Zepplin. I'd imagine all of these guys were at the LOTR opening night dressed in Gandalf costumes.

every 100% i've found was a controller....or they videotaped the tv and you coudlnt' here them playing the guitar
If there is anybody out there that has completed Through the Fire and the Flames and scored 100%, they probably have absolutely no life and spent every waking moment playing Guitar Hero.

I too have been listening to Dragonforce for months. It's like the 80s all over again, except for real this time (take THAT, Killers). The absurdity of their lyrics is what really makes them great, though. It's the Snakes On A Plane effect.

Yeah, I don't get that. I've never understood why people want to pigeonhole them as some kind of a retro band. I don't hear that at all.

You realize that AFI has been popular since about 1999, right?

Well I frankly had not heard of AFI until just recently. I didn't listen to much really hard music really until (ironically enough) after I got to Liberty.

Avenged Sevenfold is terrible, and anyone who thinks AFI is anywhere close to metal is an idiot.

Skill is completely overrated. There's a reason no reasonable person sits around listening to Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. Skill without any sense of soul, taste or style is so completely dull and boring. That's why I said before that I think DragonForce is very skilled, and left it at that. I don't deny their skill, but that's about all I can give them.

you mean people sit around and listen to vai and satriani?

there are certain technical aspects of each that i enjoy but only for a few seconds....being a guitar junky i do enjoy technical guitar but i too look for style and taste and over melody....these 2 (dragonforce) do it quite well....combined with a great fast drummer its a sound i enjoy because they are able to actually make music more than just make noises...

are they the greatest? no but they are fun to listen to. the vocals are more goofy nostalgism for me so they get a pass from me.

i understand those who can't take dragonforce. they are 20 years too late and would of made speed metal fans absolutley bonkers in the late 80's...

anymore the line between todays alternative/modern rock and todays metal has been blurred beyond belief....i've heard them described as both....of course my genre for them : turd

Never once has anyone who's ever been a fan, or known anything about AFI described them as metal.

They describe themselves as rock. In their early days, they say that their music was "youthfully exuberant, sometime sophomoric East bay hardcore/punk mode." Now they just call it rock.
