I used to work at a lumber company while in high school. I was primarily responsible for loading lumber and such into peoples cars. You would be amazed at what people would try and put on the roof of a car.

When you left our store, you had to climb a slight uphill to get on the road. And I can not count the number of times a person would want to load 9 pieces of sheetrock, or plywood, or panneling, etc on the roof of their Ford Escort. Regardless of how many times we told them it would not work, they always tried, and as soon as they hit the road, it would all fall off the back of their car.

Seinfeld Reference...."I'm using MY HAND!"

Don't get me started on people putting 675 pounds of concrete into their cars as well....

Classic stuff.

i actually take that back now that i think about it....a guy helped me and kept me from spreading industrial carpet glue all over my basement floor....he had on a brown apron.

he told me "ooooohhh no you don't want to do that....just do the outline of the room and a one line down the center and then 5 lines going the other way"...

whew that would of been a pain...
As a former carpet intaller, I can tell you that he is wrong.

sorry i have a basement prone to getting wet if i ever had to pull up the carpet, i'd much rather have only a little bit. i also called a professional installer to confirm.

they said, that you only want to have enough down so that its not moving around in most home environments. look at tacked carpet. its usually only tacked down around the edges...its stretched tight enough where its not moving.

if you have lots of moving chairs and such you may want more because the rollers on the bottoms can make humps but in a 11' x35' basement, you are ok.

i basically did the outline and then in the middle of the room it looked like this:

-----|-----
-----|-----
-----|-----
-----|-----
-----|-----
-----|-----
-----|-----

True, I always assumed that would work. However, whenever we glued down a carpet we covered the entire floor in glue. And when ever I ripped out a glued down carpet, it was over the entire thing. And yes, ripping out a gluedown is the worst.

As an elementary school teacher I hear a lot of classics from the "public" (students) I teach....My favorites:

Student: What did they use for money in the Bible days?
Teacher: Well, the Bible tells us that Joseph was sold for pieces of silver.
Student: Hmmmm....do you think they may have used beer bottle caps, because the pirates used beer bottle caps for money?

While teaching a lesson on an animals I was trying to get the students to answer that an animal's surrounding is called its habitat:

Teacher: Tell me about where a bear lives.
Students: In a forest, in a cave, surrounded by trees, near a river, etc.
Teacher: What do we call this?
Student: The great outdoors!!

And another in honor of Christmas:
Student: This weekend I am going to my grandma's house. She is Jewish so we are going to celebrate Kwanza together!

As of June they did -- I was one, in Athens, OH and Vienna WV. IIRC, the company had a contract through next June or July.

And if they were wearing blue, they've changed them OR it's a local thing. Lowes around here still has red.

Anecdotal feedback received by a company I may or may not work for that sells products I may or may not know anything about...
I just got your catalog, and I want to communicate to you that I refuse to purchase items from companies which substitute the word "Holiday" for "Christmas"
Will you be mailing out a Christmas catalog this year? I just got another holiday catalog; not sure what holiday you mean, or do I? Don't be afraid to use the name for the actual holiday you are making your living on.
I won't be offended, I promise!
My request is that your company refer to the "holiday" as what it is...Christmas. Just as I would not find it odd for someone to call Hanukkah...well, Hanukkah, Christmas should be called Christmas. It should not be hidden behind "holiday" as if people/companies were ashamed of saying the word.
I plan to keep the fact that your company does not use "Christmas" (at least, not that I have noticed) in mind when considering in which stores to do my Christmas shopping.
What is the problem with the word christmas you jerks. Guaranteed holiday delivery? What other Holiday comes after December 16th? You certainly lost my business for the CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY. You guys better get off the anti CHRISTMAS boat. It is not helping you by calling it a holiday sale especially when thanksgiving is over.
Please forward this to the higher ups. Maybe they need to know what the public that spends money on CHRISTMAS feels about your advertising. It is not working. Don't forget 90% of americans are christians and they are not offended by the word CHRISTMAS .
Please email us back and let us know that you guys atleast read this.
You certainly have no problem taking our CHRISTMAS MONEY!!!
Subject: YOU OFFEND ME
You have offended me. It is not a holiday sale. It is a Christmas sale. Merry Christmas. Who says Merry Holidays? The majority of your black friday through 12/31 sales are from "Christams" shoppers, not holiday shoppers. Just try to survive on people only celebrating the "holidays" and you will be out of business before the week is over. Quit offending me and the majority of Americans. WE celebrate CHRISTMAS.
This is why I'm so shy about identifying myself as a Christian. Seriously. I'm not ashamed of the Gospel, but I'm definitely ashamed of these people.

I understand your point, but I just wish companies would stop with the Happy Holidays stuff. It annoys the crap out of me.

Why does this make you ashamed of being a Christian?? Kudos to whoever wrote those emails... you have to stand up for something at sometime. [/b]

Thats simple...there is more the one gift giving holiday in the month of December, whether you want to admit it or not. Therefore when a catalog is released by a company for the month of december they call it their "holiday" catalog....because well it is....

I am all for us standing up for ourselves...but all those e-mails are just plain ignorant....

I really hope you were joking

Seriously, who else is going to stand up for the preservation of the sacred midwinter Viking rites of Jultid?

If not us, who? If not now, when?

I wouldn't boycott a place just because they don't use a certain word. But I certainly wouldn't think someone was stupid for doing that. If it bugs them that much, they're taking advantage of capitalism. Good for them.

On a side note, how hilarious is that Lowe's commercial where they guy asks that employee to pretend to be his wife. "I'm looking for a holiday gift for my wife". It's one thing for a company not to use a specific holiday in print but who the eff says stuff like that out loud? Oh that's great, you guys celebrate Holiday too? I can't wait for Holiday to get here so I can get some Lowe's merchandise from my spouse.
