JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The halftime aerial shot from the Direct TV blimp of Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Saturday was colored in aqua. Since that happens to be the color of the stadium's seats that was anything but good news for ACC officials.

The 77,497-seat stadium was maybe half full for the ACC championship game between Virginia Tech and Boston College. The attendance for the game was listed at 53,212, which was the number of tickets sold.

"It's not up to the standard that we're looking for in terms of a championship football game," ACC commissioner John Swofford said at halftime.

Swofford said the league will make a decision in the next two weeks in regards to where the game will be played next year. Charlotte, N.C., and Tampa, Fla., have submitted bids.

Yep. The announced attendance & actually attendance are off. Some say only about 35,000 -40,000 where there.

agreed. since the fla. ACC teams are struggling, the game should be in charlotte. they are a great host for the bowl game there, and VT would have probably sold out bank of america stadium. who cares if it is cold....the fans would show up.

The ACC office assumed that Florida State would always dominate the Atlantic division and if not hoped that Miami would win the Coastal division. The last two years, neither have happened. Yes, Jacksonville sold out when Florida State played in the game...but not when it was Georgia Tech/Wake Forest or VT/BC. Charlotte would make much more sense as its centrally located in the ACC and is not a long trek for most ACC fans.

Jacksonville is just not a great city for loads of people to come and stay a couple of days. I always thought that if they were to keep in Florida that Orlando would be a better draw for fans since there is so much to do there.

But Smoothie you are right, a more central location like Charlotte would probably just about as perfect as they can get. Though the ACC is just a tougher draw these days.

the ACC is not a tougher draw. it is just when a florida team is not in the championship and the game is in florida, the numbers will not be good. FSU did not sell out when they were in it, and miami has never traveled well. If the game is in charlotte the likely hood of a sellout is pretty good especially if VT is in it, and if UVA, clemson, or any of the NC schools were to ever make it, the game is within driving distance, and even for the northern most schools with a major airport it is easy to get to. i think the ACC has finally figured it out that the game needs to be in charlotte regardless of the weather. now if they would only make the hoops tournament in greensboro every year!

Yeah, there is normally only a 10 degree difference for that day between the two cities. Football was meant to be played in cold weather anyway.

I still think the ACC is a tough draw right now. If that was the SEC title game in Jacksonville it would sell out without any trouble even if UF or Georgia wasn't in it....but Charlotte would be a much better fit for the ACC as a whole that is for sure

how many SEC schools are within a good driving distance to jacksonville? quite a few. same with atlanta..thus is why the SEC title game is there. it is also traditonally a football conference. the ACC is still cultivating football. if the game is in charlotte it sells out or is darn near full.

depending on who is playing...you said it yourself....i think you guys love on the ACC way too much....and I am a Florida State fan, I would love to say the ACC is doing well in football...it just is not the case in my opinion, but then again, nobody ever really agrees with me, and I am often wrong with college football...but this is still my opinion

you are from florida so your allegiances are to florida teams right? you live in ACC country thus is why a lot love it and talk about it. the bottom line is if the ACC game is in charlotte is it more likely to sell out than in jacksonville. if you do not like ACC talk, then you are probably in the wrong area.

its not that I don't like ACC talk as much as I hate how much some people on this board over rate the ACC in football. Its been down for a few years and this year its the worst it ever has been (at least in my lifetime)....this is why I think the ACC is a tough draw right now....

My allegiance is Florida State...not keeping the acc championship game in Jacksonville...thats one terrible city....

Smooth, I did defend the ACC against postie in saying that it is better than the Big East. And it still is. The Big Least's best team (WVU) lost to Pitt, while a team in the ACC that didn't even make the championship game (UVA) destroyed Pitt.
