He must transfer NOW...or he will have to sit a year.

OK...Brett is no longer listed on the UMD roster...but none of my contacts from the beach area have anything definite, yet. One speculation is that the young man wants to be a 2-way player like he was in HS.

The problem is this is not Football or basketball. Maryland is really not that much better than us and on some years we are better. So these kinds of transfers don't make as much of a impact like getting a ACC or Big Ten player for basketball or Football.

He had 9 appearences for a 3.38 ERA last year and a record of 2-1.

I'd like to see that over an extended period but could be solid middle-relief, which is something we need, badly.

I agree...although 90% of DI teams out there has someone on their roster that would help us...hopefully this is it...I'm not chalking up an extra 4 -5 wins b/c of this transfer though

Wasn't trying to be negative at all. I welcome all transfers - just wanted to make the point - that don't expect Coach T. to go to the World Series with a guy who was a mid-reliever from UofM. Our talent level is comparable and they would also welcome a transfer from us.

My hope is this kid was not utilized properly or the coach didn't play him because he broke up with his daughter or accidentally shot his dog and can be a stud here at Liberty.

Proto...you speak the truth. LU in terms of talent and competitiveness is BETTER than the Terps. You never know why a kid wants to transfer...many times its the coach they want to get away from. That happens....A LOT in baseball...which is why come Jan 1, D-I transfers must sit a year as the NCAA works to improve the baseball graduation rates.

Merry Christmas everyone!!
Having attended the past few Conference Championships, I think we may have been a "transfer " away from winning it all the past two years. Even an average D-1 pitcher may have made the difference when we gave up a 10-1 advantage in the 3rd inning in 2006 (only to lose 16-11 in the Championship game). The boys plaid their hearts out but in the end we couldn't stop the hot bats from UNC Ashville.
Last year we fought our way thru the losers bracket to the Championship game. We had to turn to Solboch and Tim John, both not anywhere close to being 100% physically. To their credit they fought with courage and every ounce of what they had left, it just wasn't enough. Again too many innings pitched by our key pitching staff resulted in us falling just short of our goal .
My point ... in both instances an average D-1 transfer may have thrown the right pitch at the right time to help seal the deal to get us into the Regionals.
The season is long and arms get tired so let's hope we have a chance to roll out the red carpet for ANY pitcher that can compete at the D-1 level.
Go Flames!!!!!!!!!1 :P

It's pretty much set in stone he's coming here.

He throws about 88-91 and should be a very good pickup for us. Some other schools tried to get him but he's a Christian kid who felt like Liberty was where he wanted to play.
