Why Carolina continues to play Davidson every other year or so is crazy because Davidson always knocks them off.

First Michigan State falls to Grand Valley State, then Findlay struck it rich at Ohio State, Gardner-Webb ran past Kentucky, Mercer beat USC (I expected that one to happen, though), Lipscomb Lady Bisons crushed Fisk by 101 last night, and now this? This is going to be a an interesting Feburary and March when the season picks up!

Yeh, and Findlay and GVSU are DII, too.....

No matter, they're all great wins of insane magnitude, even when Lipscomb were predicted to finish 7th in the Atlantic Sun, and they beat their "cross-town rival."

it's only a "rivalry" based on geography, not any historical precedent.

They are a great team to play early in the year--you don't want them in January.

They are solid and are a great way to press your team right out of the gates. Duke has traditonally played them as well and always give them a tough battle. Don't be surprised if they start getting mentioned in the same breath of Gonzaga soon--not on the same level yet but they could be that potential Sweet-16 team that comes out nowhere year-in and year-out.

Davidson should be in the top 25. 29 wins last season, all 5 starters back.

Davidson's team this year is a mirror of Winthrop's team last year. The only problem I see though is that Winthrop's bigs were better, or at least, more well rounded in that they could shoot the three ball and Davidson's can't. If Davidson doesn't win a first round game, it will be because everyone can focus on Richards and Curry outside b/c the big guys can't knock down a shot outside of 15 feet. I think Davidson is a little deeper than WU was last year though.

if just one big could be a reliable scorer down low it wont matter if they cans hoot from outside 15 feet or not. a good low post scorer does wonders for perimeter players, more so than a three point shooting big man...

I did some more research b/c I thought the teams were pretty similar, and guess what, they are. The only major difference actually isn't in the post, it's on the perimeter. Davidson is/was one of the worst teams in the nation guarding the perimeter, whereas WU is/was one of the best.

How Davidson fares this year will largely depend on how well they can guard or improve on the perimeter, if they hope to get better than last season (their best win was 105 Ohio). Of course, match-ups always play a factor as well.

is everybody excited for the Uconn/G-W matchup tonight? The first in a 2 game series. Uconn, not looking very improved from last year vs a dangerous team that isn't gonna sneak up on anybody anymore.
