Seriously, do you think we would have a chance against the Golden-Domers this year?

Maybe I'm drinking the powder-mix here, but I think we would at least keep it close.

Somebody (Medic) should post that question on the Notre Dame message board.

with as bad as ND is this year I think most top 50 I-AA programs would give them a run for their money....would we win?? probably not...but it would be interesting to see....

ps...am I the only one that think its odd the Notre Dame fans aren't asking for Charlie Weiss's head?

2 of them. It would be close yes, but I'm not ready to say we would win. I just think this conversation, like the moving up a division conversation is way too early.
As a point of discussion though, would Elon, W&M, and Toledo beat Notre Dame?

I have been a Notre Dame football fan ever sense I was a lil kid and my dad took me to visit South Bend...we go to at least two ND home games a year..kind of hard now that I am here at LU. I love Liberty and don't get me wrong ND is really struggling this year but I don't think it would be close at all...ND wins

Yes, Maybe and Maybe.

I don't think we'd win, for the record. I just like pointing out how bad they are this year.

I don't see how anyone could say that Toledo could beat them and we couldn't, when we came within a hair of beating them at their place, on their homecoming day. By the way, if the Rockets can win their last 2 games against Ball State and Bowling Green they will be bowl eligible. They have averaged 55 points a game in winning their last 3 against FBS competition.

Using the 2 of 3 teams that beat us isn't really a fair comparison. We're a completely different team.

I think that we could possibly score 40 points on them right now but would probably give up a little more. I think that it would be closer than most people realize since ND is so horrible this year and we seem to be on a roll after that embarrasing loss at Elon.

LU Defense vs. Notre Dame Offense: Their offensive line is so porous that we could definitely get pressure on their QB(whoever it would be that week, haha!), which has been the key for our secondary not looking so bad themselves in the second half of this season. And, they have zero run game. But, their offense did put up 24 points on Air Force. Advatage: our D, by a small margin.

LU Offense vs. Notre Dame Defense: Our O-line is good enough, and their defensive front 7 so average, that we should be able to run the ball somewhat effectively. But, their defensive secondary isn't terrible (at least compared with the rest of their units), so I think Brock would struggle throwing the ball against their secondary (even average FBS speed looks faster in the secondary than FCS speed.) Advantage: Their D, but again, not by a whole lot.

Special Teams: Wynton would probably still do very well, but I think think they would get at least one big return.

Coaching: Weis holds an edge over Rocco, but again, its much closer than outsiders might think. A game like this, if it turns into a chess match, would certainly reveal Rocco as one of the hidden gems in FCS right onw.

Intangibles: There is no place historically quite like Notre Dame Stadium. Our nerves would be running high, but we would settle down by the second quarter.

Final: I think ND gets one touchdown each from its offense (short pass by Clausen), defense (INT return), and special teams (kick return of some sort. Meanwhile, our offense grinds out two TD's on the gorund, plus a FG. Final Score: 21-17, ND.

took me 5 minutes to type, after taking 5 minutes to look at their stats on espn.com

plus 1 more minute to edit my typos (it was bad).

Total: 11 minutes. Not too shabby...

Wow. I thought I would get killed for even suggesting we could hang with them. I guess not!

For the record, I did say we would just keep it close, not win.

Based on the respective performances of the Patriots and the Irish, with and without him, it certainly appears that Charlie rode to a genius reputation on the back of the Brady Boys. Now that Quinn is a Brown, the emperor has new clothes!

Ok, I love LU athletics, but this thread is a CLASSIC example of a fan base that takes the smallest hint of success and TOTALLY blows it our of proportion. Liberty couldn't beat William and Mary, Elon or a bad D-IA Toldeo team. As bad as Notre Dame has been this year, there is NO waaaay Liberty would beat the Irish...NO CHANCE. Hate to burst the bubble here, but until Liberty can handle 1-AA competition without getting blown out by teams like ELON, or make the playoffs EVER, we as fans shouldn't get caught up with RIDICULOUS IDEAS like this. Appalachian got to the point of being able to win AT michigan AFTER it had won TWO national titles. Liberty should focus on the playoffs, not trips to South Bend.

I, too, think this is all kind of silly, but in case you hadn't read the disclaimer at the bottom of this board...

I think some people are missing the point here, which is not that we could compete with a "normal" Notre Dame team, but that this year ND is so HISTORICALLY BAD, that is might be feasable. Michigan, after losing to App. State and being stomped by Oregon "got well" by beating this ND team 38-0. The Air Force game last week wasn't just a loss, it was a beat-down. They are BAAAAAAAAD.
