I wanted to stay out of your family discussion here, but I need to let you know that this guy isn't one of ours.

I'm not keen on that type of discussion and debated wiping that comment.
Thanks, Mo. You've kept things classy between the two boards. It's appreciated.
yes I agree...I don't see anything wrong with some friendly trash talk back and forth...but there are just some things that shouldn't be said, and you always seems very classy

Please do not insult UVA or Lynchburg with Jerry Fartwell University. I know it is not nice to dish the dead but he was a fraud.

In that case, I apologize for my own post, and I'm glad I kept it off your board.

The Keydets have started another thread about the LU fans at the game Saturday (and it's not pretty):

http://vmisports.proboards57.com/index. ... 1194792183

Super is trying to defend his student body, but the Keydets have him surrounded, and he needs some back up. Please go to the kangaroo board and help Super's one-man defense before he gets :flamethrower by the Keydet faithful.

I'd rather a bunch of random people not show up randomly. If they weren't there before the game, it's not right for them to go in and start talking junk after the game in my opinion.

Oh, give me a break, Smooth! You grow up. What crap have we posted here? Please, tell me because the best you're going to come back with is the 'West Point Rejects" chant and it does not qualify as crap. It's the oldest chant in the book and they've heard it multiple thousand times. There has been nothing else in this thread but personal observations and recitation of fact. If you want to go ballistic over all things VMI, you're aiming at the wrong people.
I dont care if the person who said that was with VMI or LC I'd say much worse than that to them in person if I was to hear that JF comment

Honestly, I'm just not even going to bother. It's quite apparent that they believe we're we're classless and mean, and only good because of a few transfers. Arguing with them isn't worth the time. We'll always be inferior Liberty to them.

Hear, hear. They've got enough problems of their own and Liberty people wading in over there would just give them a focal point.

Scorcho, you really should check out the link: some are arguing to go D3, and others are saying this is what DI-AA is supposed to be like (rowdy, hostile fans). Even if you don't post, it's fun reading.

Really...aren't these folks going to be going into some pretty hostile environments at the end of their college careers? I mean I am very grateful for the job these men and women are willing to prepare for and then go out and do valiantly on my behalf as a US citizen. However, I would like to think the folks who sign up for that job have a little thicker skin than that. As a few are not reflective of the whole, I will grant my VMI brethren the benefit of the doubt and surmise that most of the Keydet population understands the fun of a good-natured rivalry.

Oh I've been keeping up with it. I just don't want to spend time trying to interact with them. I don't feel like it would go anywhere.

No, not necessarily. VMI is not a service academy a la West Point, the Naval Academy, etc., and is not affiliated with the US Armed Forces. It's basically an engineering school with a mandatory ROTC program. Their stated goal is to have at least 50% of their graduates accept a commission in the armed forces. Currently, they are not reaching that goal.

Interesting--I've never heard it explained quite that way.

If they are under 50% joining the armed forces, I wonder how their sheer numbers in the military after graduation compare to our Army & Air Force ROTC students who choose active duty upon graduation.

I'm not going to do the fact checking for this but that is a VERY interesting point of view

I'd also just like to point out that (last I heard) we had a very large number of active duty students enrolled in our DLP program. We even have a satellite office in Fayetteville (Fort Bragg), I believe.

Its so funny...because this school is so pro-military its not even funny...we respect the armed forces and what they do for us. We have entire convocation services dedicated to those who have served in the military when many colleges around the country are the exact opposite, even Christian ones. We respect the military so much here...but during a football game we are not going to change how we treat people simply because its a "military" school....I have gone to games at other colleges and I just don't see how anybody could view our crowd as inappropriate. Loud and annoying to the opposing team?? of course...but inappropriate...please

Currently, they are not reaching that goal.

For the record, we're not an "engineering-only" school, although our engineering department is nationally-ranked. Fewer than half of our Corps majors in engineering. We also offer majors in the Arts and Sciences and have been ranked number one nationally among public schools in liberal arts.

ROTC IS affiliation with the US Armed Forces. The DOD maintains a large contingent of officers on Post to accomplish a large training mission. The school would prefer that all cadets accept a commission in one of the branches, but mandatory commissioning was dropped during the '80's because of the the lack of regular and reserve commissions available. The Superintendent has set a goal for increased commissioning which will require some cooperation from the DOD.

The original purpose of the school, which stands today, is to produce "citizen soldiers" in service to the state and nation. To that end, the Virginia Army National Guard has benefitted from enlistment by many Cadets who have left school to serve with their units, along with the reserve officers fielded from alumni ranks.

To the issues on the board, thanks for the comments here. I need to point out that the dynamic of our board is a bit different than most because most of our posters are older alumni. Don't take the disrespect too hard here--it's tough on guys who remember beating UVA and Va Tech (we beat UVA three out of my four years there and missed a 30-yard FG that would have won the 4th) to accept watching school after school start up or ramp up football programs around us.

I don't know if I've been able to keep the discussion "classy", but I think the good news is that you're getting that rivalry you wanted and our board is getting some serious action, thanks to your participation. :D

fewer than half major in engineering: not an engineering school
fewer than half accept a commission to the armd forces: not a real military school

seems obvious to me.

reform school, maybe?

KIDDING! KIDDING!

no offense meant to Stonewall Jackson or any other dead southerners!

LOL--nah, PA. I can assure you that 100% of our Cadets are very much "in the military".

But thanks for playing. 8)
