Does anyone know how long McKay's contract is? I ask because I heard (I know, heard) that if he has a good year, he might jump ship if given a better offer.

Wow, he hasn't even coached a game yet. That was quick.

If that were to happen, I think I would just laugh. Normally, if a coach is looking to do that, they say all the right things in terms of wanting to be at their current school. But McKay has been laying it on pretty thick in the "this is the perfect job for me" and "God wants me here" departments. If that's not genuine, who can you trust?

That is purely speculative. I would be shocked, yes shocked if he jumped ship after just one year. Unless we make a Sweet 16 run it wouldn't be prudent from a career standpoint.

I've heard the rumors as well, but I just don't believe them. McKay seems completely genuine and our school matches his personal believes. I just don't see him leaving in a year. He's not Buzz.

The thing is I didn't hear it from anyone associated with LU, and this person is a good source. I am hoping its not, although I wont even be here unless I decided to go to grad school here.....but, I really think we should watch out for the possiblity

Sly, you really think our guys have a chance at sweet 16? Don't get me wrong bball is where it is at for me, but going from bad to awesome in just one year? McKay would have to be a real miracle worker.

Besides using LU as a stepping stone is just plain funny to me.

It would be a borderline miracle to make the tourney, let alone the sweet 16. I think Sly was just indicating the type of success Richie would need to have in order to arouse interest in a big time program just one year removed from being canned at New Mexico.

Call me naive, but I refuse to believe this. If it turns out to be true, RMc would fit right in there with Nick Saben in the hypocricy hierarchy.

Not to mention, we'll most likely be a mid-tier BSC team this year. Even if this rumor is true, he's staying here.

Meh. What will be, will be. I wouldn't understand it at all if he did, but for now I'm behind him.

I've heard that rumor outside of Liberty too. I think most people think of RMK as being way above Liberty and why would he stay here if he could coach a lot of other "better" places? I think he will be here for a while. I believe him when he says Liberty is the right place for him.

It's not like McKay suddenly and conveniently became a man of faith when he found out about the opening at LU. A lot of what was heard from the Lobo crowd was about how he didn't fit there because of his desire to be open about his beliefs. I believe he is here because he believes it is where God wants him, and it's pretty far-fetched to think that could be just for a year.

no one is saying he is going to leave if he does well.....only the possibility.

if a school likes Florida state(not a great team, but in a great conference) offered you a job over liberty, would any of us take it over Liberty??

I just dont buy it...I really dont...I believe he's tasted the big time and realizes it isnt what it's all cracked up to be. He's at a place where he doesnt have to be afraid of the ACLU in fact if he makes them mad enough he may get a raise! Seriously though, I believe he's here for the long haul...he's good friends with coach's on campus who are looking to compete at the national level and I believe he's bought into that vision...I'd be shocked if he was to leave within the next 4-5 years

I think the real question is how long do Soucie and Layer hang around?

Very good point, especially where Layer is concerned. Remember, at one time McKay was HIS assistant at Queens. Layer has a lot of head coaching experience, is older, and I suspect would want to be in charge of a program again if the opportunity arose. Soucie on the other hand is still young, has spent most of his career as McKay's right hand man, and seems to have a very similar vision; so I could see them working as a team for some time. In either case, they're not likely to get a lot of interest from other programs unless we are having success here.

God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill? Numbers 23:19

well excuse me...I didn't see much indicating a joke. I mean Im sure I'l see the humor in it later, just at the time since it was my first read I went with a hunch and figured he was being serious

The notion that McKay may be a short-termer actually began before he was even hired. Those who didn't want him here used it as an argument against hiring the man because RM has a history of jumping to a new job every third year or so.

One thing about McKay, he's not a superficial Christian who speaks chistianese, but on the contrary a real and genuine individual who puts Christ first. The LU situation is ideal for RM and he views it as a calling. That's why the Curry and the McMasters families want to be associated with him.

LU and McKay are good for each other. It's a win-win as far as I'm concerned. My prediction is that this will be his longest tenure as a coach.
