I know they sleep in, and I think it's dumb. If you can't get up by 1pm on two Saturdays a year then you're way too lazy for your own good. Then again, those are the same kids who can't discipline themselves enough to take classes before noon.

I was surprised at the low turnout, AND how quiet the Baptist side is (told my wife "Next year, we sit on the student side again"). I think so many alumni remember football games as a time to socialize (back when the team stunk), and they defaulted back to that attitude this weekend.

But I thought the band looked and sounded better than it has in a long time.

I love that the "low turnout" was the second highest in the history of the program. We put 15.3k in a 12k seat stadium. We're doing alright.

As for the quietness of the Baptist side, I had to laugh at it. It seemed like cheering was replaced by the swishing sound of pompoms being shook. In the intro, on 3rd downs, basically whenever somebody on the field would be flapping their arms to get us to make some noise, our side would just shake their pompoms instead. It was a pretty loud swishing.

Yeah it kinda sucks when you stand up to cheer and everyone just looks at you funny.

Yep. And either these folks don't understand football, or they weren't paying attention to some of the game Saturday. Twice when Presby was going for it on fourth down, I was up out of my seat clapping and yelling. Not so much for the folks around me.

Maybe we need to mix the students in with the paying folks, though. I know it used to be a common complaint in the Smith Center back home that the Rams club sat in the lower level seats while the students sat up top. This meant that on TV Carolina's crowd was always sitting down and looking quiet. They never got up and got loud unless it was a very close game or Duke was in town. Anyway, there was a big go-round about moving some of the students down to the lower level. I honestly don't remember how it ended up, but my point is that maybe we need to do something like that. I wouldn't want to see the student section vibe ruined, but their enthusiasm could be contagious if mixed in properly.

Straight from Byrnes Bentley:
We went up to Lynchburg, Va., to play Liberty on Saturday and we were welcomed to a first class affair. I never thought they would have the setting for a football game like we witnessed on Saturday. I am amazed that the team that played us has actually lost three games. They were the largest most aggressive team we have played all year.

Exactly the reason most fans are passionatley upset about the close losses. We have a team that is better than 3 losses!

Agreed. It took us a little while to get rolling this season, but we're firing on all cylinders now. I'm trying very hard not to think about those games, though. We still have too much to look forward to.

Vs Presby.....
All O line grades upper 80-mid 90%. Right tackle, a ridiculous 22 knockdowns. Center with 12 knockdowns.
Coach Rocco wanted to put up the O line up for player of the game, but couldn't get all their big butts on a banner.
This unit is working like a well designed tank. Perhaps poultry grease would provide a good lubricant for the treads.
I hope the SID's or someone (SJ) could put together highlight film of the punishment dealt by this group alone. It would have running backs begging to come to LU.

O Their coach is a dbag. Did not like the fact that on 4th and 6 down 27 or something with 4 minutes left they went for it instead of taking the points. Games over big guy. If anyone is upset about the Chris Luck TD, Bentley started it. Then while down 34 with 1:30 remaining hes passing all over the field, okay, but then 21 gets pummeled. Next play? A QB scramble. WHY????? He coaches like that theres gonna be nobody left.
So our coach is a "d-bag" because he wants us to go down swinging? Personally, I like the fact he went for it on 4th down even though the game was out of reach. Think about it from our position, for a second. Bentley wants our program to be respected as one that plays to the final whistle. I much prefer a coach that continues to fight and at least try to make the game closer than one who just resigns himself and his team to defeat. Plus, we've shown ourselves to be pretty good at going for it on 4th down this season; Saturday was an aberration. In the future, how 'bout sticking to disagreeing with a coach's play calling rather than making a character judgement on a man you don't know?

Saturday was not an abberation.

You were playing a team that actually plays defense, particularly against the run.

You coach was calling timeouts to get the ball back in a game he was WAY out of.

So we gave the Bill Billecheck style "Eff You" TD.

Cuz who knows, maybe your coach wanted the score to be closer so they could take another "impromptu picture".

Which by the way, you will never live that down.

Part of our chatter behind ya'lls bench was "No team photo this week, just head to the bus".

Welcome to the Big South. Feel free to go 3-2 every year and feel good about yourselves to feasting on the trash in the conference.
LU will be here to bring you back to Earth now and then. About once a year. We are bigger, faster, stronger, and deeper. Our 4th string running back is probably as good as "Franchise". Our 4th and 5th wideouts are as good as Larry and the rest of your second tier guys.

And our QB is bigger than more than half of your defense.

Not to mention our lines are bigger than your lines, by far.

There is no abberation, sir or ma'am.

You jumped in front of a truck this week.

You can tell alot about a coach by how he calls plays especially when losing big and winning big. Going down swinging is different than what he was trying to pull Saturday. If he cares about putting up points to make it respectable take your points and a fg and get out, dont go for it on 4th AND 10 inside the 30. Im sure your success on 4th and 10 is absolutely amazing. Hes not a fighter, hes a stat padder, and thats what he was doing Saturday. Not making it respectable, just trying to pad stats.

Thank you for that inspired reply, Totheleft. Saturday WAS an abberration in terms of our FOURTH DOWN CAPABILITY, not in terms of our winning, which you would understand if you listened to all of the other PC games this season. All I was doing was standing up for a coach I'm fond of, who was being judged as a person for his call to try and get the ball back to cut a disastrous lead. I hardly think decisions to try and play till the bitter end warrant Bentley, or anyone else, being called a "d-bag."

What gives with all the hostility? I didn't talk any smack to LU or try to take away from your win on Saturday. And you're right about everyone on your squad being bigger than us. No kidding. You have 63 scholarships available. We're at 40 and climbing. If you weren't bigger and deeper with the money you have then shame on you. Sorry to disappoint, but EVERY team we square up against is bigger than us. Liberty isn't a special snowflake. But please, keep hating on our program. In your post you sounded really excited to talk trash about a team you beat severely. It's obvious that you're not used to that kind of thing, or at least you haven't experienced it in a while. After all, this is LU's first winning season in how long? In addition, that comment about "way to go and play crappy teams and beat them and feel good about yourselves" was totally unnecessary. I hope it makes you feel great knowing that you smacked the Hose or hosed the Presbyterians or whatever lame and played-out expressions you've concocted.

How can you make a loss by that margin seem respectable by kicking field goals? Given our success at fourth down conversions it'd be dumb to kick it when we're sure we could move the chains. Whatever, though. I'm not going to change your minds, and I don't care if I do. I stand by PC's program, our coach, and his play calling.

It wasnt your 4th down "ability" that didnt show up.

It's your being dominated in every facet of the game that didnt allow you to move the ball on any down consistently.

so all of that is relevant.

Kilts, every year at Byrnes, Gaffney beat them because they were bigger and stronger.

It's just smack talk. Rivalries aren't born without it. Did they not have those in DII?

We had a winning season last year. It was only by one game, but after a 1-11 season and with a new head coach, we'll take it.
