We're pretty happy with him, he was the top SG/PG a lot of schools were after, including High majors. Even more happy we have three guys committed that at the three star level. No Big South school, including Winthrop, has gotten that much quality across the board before, Peele is so far one upping Marshall.

As you can see from his post count, Killn'emsoftly only speaks when he has something to say, and I believe he is from that area, so I would give a lot of credence to his info. Doesn't mean this kid isn't a good get, or won't be a productive player.

Realist sure does get excited when he "sees stars", doesn't he? :star :star :star :star :star :star :star :star :star

Ok, Realist, take a moment and think about Football or something before standing up.

Just for you Dox.

**** PG 6-2 Andre Jones (Nansemond River) Suffolk, VA - Rated 4 stars by Rivals, #9 point guard in class of 2008. At this point, Virginia, Virginia Tech, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Georgetown and Connecticut have shown the most interest in Jones, and he said that George Mason had been coming on strong as of late. 3/07 - Jones said Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Virginia, George Mason, Georgetown and NC State have been in to see him in action this year. Virginia Tech, Virginia, George Mason and Old Dominion have offered a scholarship, Jones said.
where is he ranked the #9 PG in the country.....maybe #9 in Virginia

These ranking are all bunk anyway. He's probably very good. But when he's a 2 star at scout and a 4 at rivals, it shows you how garbage they are. That's a huge difference.

I guess we need to find a mean average here between Howard Johnson's and the Omni. Perhaps, he's a Quality Inn.

I will give the advantage to scout any day..........

I am just asking what site is ranking him so high.....

UNC signed the #8 point guard in the country according to scout.com and has been ranked #12 by rivals.

So, I think the top 25 at each position can fluctuate a bit, but you cannot be #9 in the country at PG and go to Winthrop......

Maybe, he's a two-star talent with a 4-star attitude. If this is the case, then he should fit in nicely over at WU in the post-Marshall era.

He did fall off, a bit. Winthrop, just like everyone else in the East, has been tracking his progress for a long time. But don't make stupid comments like this. Their program is so much further ahead of the Big South right now. And this is how they stay there.

Conference affiliations aside, Winthrop is as good as or even much better of a men's basketball program than any of those schools listed who offered him.

This statement, although hyped-up, applies to the Greg Marshall era. The post-Greg era is going to be defined by what they actually achieve, not by what Greg Marshall achieved along with former players, most notably Bradshaw and Martin.

once again, Winthrop will never get the #9 ranked Point Guard in the country....just the truth

Deal with it.....WU has been calling my boy quite a lot lately

Josh, you only hear what you want to hear, or in this case, read. The kid was the #9 ranked point guard at one time in the country. He's not anymore. He's a) fallen off or b) the competition caught up with him.

I don't have it. I've just read on both boards, as well as taken into consideration what people who are much more in the know than you are have said. You can read the sites, but there are people on here who know more about this stuff than you could ever dream of.

Killn'emsoftly wrote:Don't get too worked up over this kid... his stock fell this summer. He is similiar to Seth but more more athletic. He was really good when he was younger, that's why he had the big boys on him(High Major schools) he leveled off and fell to the Big South... Why wouldn't VCU be all over him if he was a 4 star. George Mason recruited him because they wanted his teammate Nicholas Wright and him as a package. Nice commitment for WU though.
He was a big-time recruit and then fell off.

If those two say something, I'm going to listen to them 100x before I'll ever listen to you.

so basically he is an average player.....

you can listen to anyone, that is not the point......I am just saying he isn't anything to do effing cartwheels over

WU never got the #9 PG

also, he is listed as a 2-guard

wow, you always make me laugh

From what I understand, he had offers from UVA and VT, among a few other majors but was holding out (don't know for who), they moved on to others who they could get to sign. As for signing with WU, unless your talking about a perennial Top 25 program, they've got a chance against anyone, and this one they got. He was rated the 9th best pg in the country and as little as a month or two ago, a 4 star recruit. Does that mean he'll score 40 every game in the Big South, probably not, but he is most likely the most heralded recruit to come into the conference, and he's going to be a high level player in our conference, most likely. Winthrop is getting the ears of a lot more and higher rated recruits right now b/c of the Top 25 ranking. It's just the truth.
