Other than the fact he would have to start over again after starting over again this year, and it being a lateral move conference wise, I don't see how he couldn't have gone. Furman is about 20 times nicer than CCU, in just about every aspect.

Not badmouthing Coastal. I've been to both schools and FU is that much nicer than CCU. Furman has a beautiful campus and top rate facilities. Coastal doesn't. Just a fact.

Tally, this is a thread about Coastal. If you don't want to read it, get the [Edit] out. I don't care either way. Whenever someone degrades something close to you then you are going to respond. I was simply saying I think Coastal has a really nice campus. Anyone on here that's ever seen it will agree to that.

Easy SJ ... you can't let Tally get under your skin. He's just playing a little Devil's Advocate. I haven't been on the CCU campus since I was in school at LU int he Late 80s. I'm sure it is much nicer now then back then. I've also seen Furman's place and it is pretty sweet.

SJ... I just get board with your posts... you're an LU student and 90% of your posts talk about Coastal. Its stale... Go to a Coastal board to talk them up... This is an LU board. Most of your posts today were about Coastal (painting, belt, baseball field on t.v.) and all you love there. When we talk about the atheletics at LU, you talk about how Coastal is better... when someone mentions the growth of LU, you talk about how Coastal is better... it's just old. Been on campus 4 months and all you've talked about is Coastal. I guess other posters are cool with it... I think it's lame. It's like someone talking about their old girlfriend.... give back the box of love letters and start supporting LU for who we are and have been... not just when you think you have great ideas to improve on the place...

You have every right to post about whatever you want... I also have the right to let you know that it's time to be more positive about LU and let go of the past with Coastal. Go re-read your last 20 posts or so... you'll see what I'm saying.

Well you can't blame the guy. This time last year he WAS going to Coastal so obviously he still has some pretty strong ties/memories to that school. Sp naturally a lot of his spiel is going to be about Coastal. And frankly I don't blame him. He has only been around here for a few months so why not ease off a bit

I think our guy SJ is gonna make a big splash on campus this fall- he's got a lot of energy and will do great things with the student fan group if given the amount of support he needs. I've seen the stuff he did at the other place and if I was a student, I'd definitely be on board!

I think everyone on here really DOES want the same thing: success for LU athletics!

It's only natural that SJ (and others) compare LU to Coastal. They are the all-sports top dog in the Big South right now, so they would be our rival for Big South supremecy. Carolina doesn't compare itself to Clemson, does it?

I don't think Marshall would take that job... it's the southern conference when he makes his next move I am sure that it will be better than that... He is the dog at Winthrop, I just can't see him leaving his post now to go to C of C

When it came open a few years back, marshall's name wasn't in the mix. And that was coming off of a few championships in a row then too. I'm pretty sure he would see this as a step down anyway, both CofC and the southern conference have declined in basketball, the Big South is a better conference at this point.

Yes, C of C declined under Tim Herrion -- that's what you get for hiring Pete Gillen's righthand man -- but, prior to that, the College was the job to get for an up and coming coach. At this stage, unless Marshall wants to remain at Winthrop forever, there is very little left for him to do there. Additionally, the Big South is no way shape or form a better basketball conference than the SoCon. In recent years, we've had one stud program (Winthrop), one decent program (High Point) and the rest mediocre to poor. TBy contrast, the entire top half of the SoCon, even with the loss of ETSU, are all fairly solid programs.

Marshall is apparently getting zero looks outside the conference and, if I were him and given the chance, I'd latch onto C of C till they told me to let go.

Living in the past Libertine. Big South with a better RPI than the Socon this year. Big South with a dominant winning record over the Socon this year. The Socon has declined. Winthrop would wax anyone in that conference with the exception of Davidson, who is a decent team, but losing everyone this year as well. CofC has a tradition, a tradition that has been gone for about 5 years now. It's a step down, and while I can't say I don't know, I'm pretty sure he would refuse it.

Bigger schools. Bigger markets. Bigger arenas. Yeah, the SoCon is SOOOOOO far behind the Big South. Simply a one year fluke happening, like in the mid to late 90's.

Who has a bigger market than Charlotte? Winthrop gets all the press in the Queen City now, Davidson gets nothing. Torrell Martin is the Collegiate player of the year for 2006 in Charlotte City Mag. The Big South is a better conference. Never understood why you try to trash your own conference anyway.

It's not about trashing the conference, it's about being a ...well, a realist. Coaches that do well in the SoCon get hired away to bigger schools. Coaches that do well in the Big South are Big South coaches forever. Marshall is living proof of that.
