Irbby's down by the airport seems to be good although very pricey.

AAA Transmissions in Madison Heights is by far the cheapest and they give you a 18 month warranty. I believe the AAA stands for All American Automotive? Something like that...but tell them I sent ya! LOL no really!

Money really isn't an issue...I don't want to take it to Saturn out of principle when I told them what was wrong and they still insisted I take it and have an additional $150 dollar fee....

I took my car to Don Irby when it was on Wards where Toyota is now. Same exact situation. I told him what was wrong with it and to replace that part and that's what he did. He told me that there were gonna be some future problems and I was gonna need to get that fixed soon, but I said no dice and was on my way. I don't remember if it was expensive or not.

If it's a clutch issue I'd take it to Forest Automotive...if a Tranny problem then Don Irbby's

Forest Automotive did good work for me on a transmission this past winter. I've also heard good things about Don Irby. On another note, if you need body work done, avoid Lasley's. They added costs not listed on the estimate (only $20 but it was still not listed) and refused to give me my vehicle until it was paid. I took a check for the exact amount they had quoted me for and Mr. Lasley was very rude and told me it was tough luck and if I tried to take the vehicle without paying him, he would call the police.

Here's a funny similarly related story.

My car got towed because it was unregistered. I had to move it onto a public street from my lot because they were repaving it. So anyway, the one day it was out there they got it. So this is my 2nd time dealing with Trent's towing and I pretty much hate them. So I went there and paid my fine and said I'd pick it up later tonight, so they agreed to move it to a place where it's not locked up. So the next day the very woman I paid, face to face is knocking on my door yelling at my wife that she's going to report that we stole the car, blah blah blah. I was at work so I had to go down there at lunch and show them my receipt. And even then, she didn't remember seeing me. How can you run a business and not keep track of who's paid for what?

A lot of those types of companies work with high pressure tactics. They sucker many people into paying twice to avoid the cops. It's similar to a collections agency buying up debt and then mailing everybody with that last name saying they owe such and such. That happened to my wife and I about a year ago. Each of us got the same letter from the same collection agency requesting the same exact amount of money on the same day. Of course it was something we didn't owe. We called the company and they claimed they were filing it against our credit if not paid. We called the police and were instructed to call them back and let them know it would not be paid. The collection agency then apologized and said they had sent it in error. Scammers all around!
