Their quarterbacks who transfer are generally whiners who aren't willing to work hard.

Can't we trade Spencer and cash considerations to LSU for a defensive back or two?

Yes I did and I also granted SJ the fact that he has seen more of the team than I have

I dont think we can pay enough for good DB's

With that said I think now that we are at this point in the season with our Defense, we really underestimated the loss of Horn. Yes our pass coverage resembles a mixture of swiss and that stinky cheese, but it wasnt alot better last year. The difference is how we got pressure to the QB. Well thats part of it, the other being how we dont make adjustments midgame. But really - how many sacks do we have against real competition? (I actually dont know this so if someone has a number....)

Here's the sign that this is Brock's team, that this team supports Brock, and that this team rallies behind Brock:

In the Shippensburg game, when Brock ran off the field with a stinger, after the series, EVERY SINGLE offensive player was huddled around the trainers trying to see if Brock was ok. If they didn't support the kid, they would've moved on and talked about the next series. If they didn't think he gave them their best chance to win, they would've moved on and talked about the next series. If he wasn't one of their leaders, they would've moved on and talked about the next series.

Well we only have 11 total.

(We have only give up 5, which is awesome)

Uh, how many sacks can you get when quarterbacks are doing two step drops on screen passes. They're screening us to death because of our pass rush.

See, Dox and FlamingChick, you think that because Brock plays bad in the other quarters that he's not good. [/quote]

No No No...I am not saying he is not good. I think Brock is good when he's consistent. Brock played well down at W&M and also played good at Toledo. It would just be nice to have the Brock that played the final minutes of the game at W&M all the time. If Brock wasn't good, he wouldn't be the starter. He just struggles with his consistency.

He struggled at W&M and Elon. Coach made a change and had him change his pregame routine. He has yet to struggle since. We made a chance, the consistency issues went away. Why are we still talking about it, especially when it hasn't happened in three weeks?

As in they fear our pass rush?

or that they don't fear it?

The first would make more sense.

Not when the past two Division I teams have thrown screen passes on us. You throw screens and run draws to negate a good, fast pass rush.

Brock Smith is going to win us a BSC Championship.

Will everyone shut up then?

El Scorcho wrote:I just don't get all of the focus on Brock, who has played pretty well, when it's so obvious that our defense has been abysmal? We're giving up 513 yards a game on D and everyone is talking about the QB? I just don't understand it.

It's like having a cold and gangrene at the same time, but complaining about the cold.
Ha, a cold and gangrene, lol.

I agree, how did this end up about Brock? I agree with you that the defense needs work, but I don't know what the problem is. I'm not an expert on defensive schemes or what we run, but it's clearly not working too well... It's just hard to have such close losses--when you can just taste the win, and come up short.

El Scorcho wrote: Your analogy is flawed because the defense failed in the fourth quarter while we were ahead. It was a defensive failure that cost us the game and when the offense tried to save it, Brock was not the one who blew it.
Didn't say that Brock was the one who blew it. I also said that the defense played good the first 3 quarters, I said nothing about the 4th quarter. They were worn out by the 4th quarter. What I"m asking is whether or not their efforts would be considered "giving us a chance to win"? SJ is saying that Brock has always put us in a position to win, even when he's only played good for a quarter (the 4th), so I'm just seeing how far that theory goes when it's not about Brock.
You did say that the offense didn't score in the 4th quarter, and I was pointing out that the offensive failure had nothing to do with Brock. I never said you said anything.

I did say your analogy was flawed because it is. A defensive failure in the fourth quarter does not equate to outstanding play in the rest of the game. They still didn't play well, save Greiser. Brock has been consistent enough all season to leave us in winnable positions. The defense has not.

Who do you know on the team, btw?
Got ya on the offensive failure part and I can't say that I disagree. I don't even blame that on the guys b/c I don't know why we gave up on the run so soon anyways...What I was trying to say by bringing up the defense was that they held Toledo the best they could for 3 quarters, so can we say that the defense put us in a position to win, but the offense (could probably replace this with play calling) is what came up short this time since they did not score in the 4th? (Does that make sense? I'm so tired, I dont even know why I'm still up--that was one long drive to Toledo!)
