I am flying up to Chicagoland this evening before flying back home to God's Country tomorrow. The training is up in Libertyville and since I'm not familiar with that part of town, I was hoping some of you locals could help a brother out.

I'm flying into O'Hare and then taking a cab out to Libertyville. I am staying at US 45 & Winchester and it doesn't appear I'll have many dining options. I am jonesing for some Chicago-Style pizza. I see some of the Chicago chains somewhat nearby on the map such as Genos East and others. But they are all over on North Milwaukee.

What do you guys suggest? I may have to phone in an order form the airport and have the cabbie stop for me to pick something up.

what part of Libertyville are you in? I live in Lake zurich which is right down 22 about 5 miles from there(20 minutes or so with traffic). Ginos east is by far the best chicago pizza, and i dont know of one on Milwaukee Ave. If you can get to 22 and head west towards 12, Ginos east is on the corner of 12 & 22 in Lake Zurich. Across the street from there is also Giardanos, the second best chicago pizza. As far as Libertyville goes, its basically the same town as Vernon Hills where hawthorne mall is with its food court as well as Buffalo Wild wings. Today is a wedsnday and that means 50 cent legs there. To get here you will go south on Milwaukee(21) until you get to 60, turn right to go west and buffalo wild wings will be on your left hand side a little bit after the mall. This is where a good majority of the dining in this area will be. Hope this helps.

sorry, just realized you wont have a way of getting around, these places are all probably too far. Unfortunatly your right out of the delivery district for the Lake Zurich Ginos East.

closest option to you is the corner of 83 and 176. White castle, Applebees, Starbucks, and a nice family owned Pizza joint with some of the best ribs you will have you in your life, this is tucked away by the staples and Best buy.

I wound up having a double decker pizza from Bill's in Mundelein delivered to my hotel.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone else ever had a cab fare approach $100? It was 95 bucks to get from O'Hare to Libertyville. Ay caramba!

ahhh...candlewood?...had a conference near there once...

yeah....not much there....

there are a few pizza places within a mile but none are really that good...

there was a lou malnati's in northbrook that we went and got and it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either...i think they deliver as well...

there is alos a gino's east but in libertyville but i dont' know if they deliver...

i think there was a cantonese restaurant nearby that wasn't horrible...

Candlewood indeed. I'm bolting this joint in the morning and catching a flight home to Houston after a day of training some folks who make a great deal more money than I do. It sounds like I made the right call. It was an above average pie. The Ginos East didn't deliver and I don't have a car.

I once paid almost 70 for a cab ride from the airport in Erie, PA to a church in Union City for a wedding rehearsal dinner (I was one of the ushers in a friend's wedding)

Because of the snow the trip took like almost an hour. I forget who the cab company was but when I saw the final fare my eyes about fell out of my face taking my glasses with em. I don't think they charged every 1/8 mile. I think they charged for some really small increment (like per tenth mile or something I forget)

well that was initally for fox but thats fine...

well regardless of how long it takes they are only supposed to go for mileage.

most in city big city cabs will charge every 1/8 mile or 1/9th mile..

we went to georgia 2 years ago for a conference....we handed the cab driver the brochure to the convention hall and he took us on a 25 minute drive to the convention hall...we unpack, pay (40 bucks) and he leaves...there is not one sign around for this pretty big convention....i notice this and write down his tail....upon investigation it was not our center....so we get another cab and he takes us to the right one 8 BLOCKS FROM THE AIRPORT...

we were so mad....i called the cab company and told them and here is amost word for word what the guy said, "hold on...*typity typity*...o s*** not abu again. sorry, this is a guy who has had 4 complaints the past year of doing this. you handed him the brochure even? thats ballsy. I'm calling that guy in here... i apologize...i'm going to make him send you the cash...give me an address."...i give him the address and 2 weeks later i get a check in the mail...

If it was a Chicago city cab they have a 50% surcharge for going to the suburbs as they have to deadhead all the way back to the city. The only way not to get a city cab at the airport is to call one and arrange a pickup. Libertyville is considered way out as suburbs go. Nice place to live but not much to visit.
I used to live in Evanston and flew a lot on business. The rule is that they could only charge straight fare to Evanston as it was adjacent to Chicago. The cabbies HATED taking me out there so when I got in I promised them an extra large tip to go to Evenston and they were less surly.

badger nails it. That 50% charge is highway robbery ... and the cabbie wasn't even wearing a mask.
