Did you not expect to win or something? We need to move on but we have too many issues to be a "great" team. Elon will beat us if we play like we did last night.

Im sorry but to say oh well you werent here two years ago so its okay is a terrible arguement. Keep in mind I was here two years ago but I love the fact that the fr/so arent used to losing. They expect more and we should too.

Im thinking of a 49er team that was terrible in like 77 or 78 and then drafted a ton of good players IE Montana along with 3 DB's in 3 rounds and the Biggest change that led to the dynasty was the fact that these guys would not accept losing like the vets would.

I expected to win, look at my predictions before the game. I never picked W&M to win. I expected us to win. I knew it would be tough, but I expected it. I'm not saying it's ok. It's not. We should have won. I am VERY upset we lost, but we have to be appreciative to the athletic department for us even being where we are now. Many times you have to experience heartaches like last night to learn how to win. It will be interesting to see how the team rebounds next week. We will find alot out about their "heart" next week.

You know that is so true, but how many do we have to take for us to get over the hump? honestly last night was a statement game for us and again we fail to make a mark. We have the ability to be a good team but we cant make dumb mistakes and there are alot of holes we need patched up.

Lets not talk about anygame involving our Kicking the past 2 or 3 years.....

It does seem to be the year of the True Freshman QB, doesnt it?? VT, Notre Dame, Michigan, UVA (close enough..)

I'm not entirely serious.

Brock probably gives us the best chance to win, like it or not

The problem with Brown is that if we start him, we have to keep him starting all year, otherwise we need to Redshirt him.

I just like the idea of Brown kicking some tail under center, but I am going to use some patience and wait and support Brock, since he CAN make good plays.

Has heeven been working at al this seaosn at QB? My understanding is that Landis is the certain backup...
I'm just very surprised that there was no back-up plan for our consistantly inept QB play. You're gonna have a hard time trying to convince me that this offense would not be significantly better with a double-threat like Zach under center.

..
How good is Landis? How is Zach in regards to passing? It seems like our biggest struggle in regards to QB play is the passing. Brock is ok on the short pass, but it's the deep ones that are the most inconsistent. By deep, I mean anything over 20 yards. I was surprised not to see Landis get in the game last night, but looking back, I think it may have been the coach's intention to get Brock more confident in hopes that the passing would be more consistent. It just took a while. Looking at the stats, they look pretty good, but being at the game in person, you could see that there were a couple more that could have been interceptions. On some of the passes that were completions, the pass was behind the receivers quite a bit, but they grabbed them. Def need to work on accuracy. Hopefully this will get better!

If we loose to Elon then we could think about a QB change only if he performs poorly. I think that we are stuck with Brock for now. No sense in putting Brown in as a true freshmen and I am not too sure about Landis.

A bit of history here. Our last good QB was Ben Anderson in his senior season. After Ben it has been a long dry spell for QB's.

I wouldn't exactly say we're "stuck" with Brock, largely because it sounds negative. Is he a great QB? No. Is he a an OK QB? I'd say so.

BTW, and I may be the only one who believes this because the other QB's I witnessed during my time at Liberty were Gus Condon and Christian Newsom, but... Biff Parsons wasn't bad.

I thought your QB played well. When you put up 41 points and lose. The focus should be on the defense. Your d-line look small. Almost like linebackers. They jammed our run early on. You could see them wear down throughout the game.

Our defense is awful. At least Liberty came in with some blitz packages. We neither rushed the QB nor defended the pass.

see, thats the thing...our QB didn't play horrible...but he sure as heck didn't play very well....and the fact that we still put up points says one of two things...our offense isn't that bad...or your defense is horrible...probably a combination of both...

but this game is on the shoulders of the defense, they didn't step up...

Yeah, I figured I'd just point that fact out....But you are right, we need to have just a little more patience with Brock. It's still early in the season and he is getting a little better each game. As for Brown, he'll get his chance when the time is right.

Yea but Brock is a junior. Last year the excuse was he was a first year starter and missed spring ball with mono and had to learn a new system so that could explain some early ineffectiveness and inconsistencies. This year I don't think that these excuses are going to fly. I certainly don't think Brock is a horrible QB but not great by any means. That means average QB and our running game is not so devistating that we can beat good teams with a mediocre QB. Good teams pick up on these things and adjust accordingly. We could beat the St Francis's and the VMI's of the world with that but William and Mary and Toledo are a whole different matter. I hope things work out for Brock but I am loosing patience.

I guess it is frustrating for those of you who have been following the team for awhile. I guess I'm more optimistic that things will get better, since this is only my first year as a fan...

Coach Rocco is really on top of things in all aspects of running a successful program certainly more than his predicessors. We will have to trust that he makes the right moves as the season progresses.

Whoever mentioned Ben Anderson in his senior season in '97...That's right...

He was the last dominant QB we had that could take over and win...it seemed like LU would have to start loosing...then Anderson would start throwing bombs to Courtney Freeman...and all of a sudden we would win.

That said...in the 10 years...Biff was good...and I think Brock is just below Biff...so that's not bad...I'd rate it like this...

Ben Anderson
Biff Parsons
Brock Smith
Kyle Painter
Paul Troth
Gus Condon
Christian Newsome or something like that...
Then the other various ones...

That puts him 3rd out of 7 in the last 10 years...so that's a little bit above average LU quarterback. So that would make him about an average I-AA QB...and for the mistakes he made...he still made some good TD throws at the end...so he kept fighting...so I think he's actually getting better, still...I still think we can win the rest except for Toledo with Brock.

Some may disagree with me, but in the limited time i saw Painter actually get to play under Karcher i was impressed. I would have to bump him up a slot.

Rocketfan...

You're right about Painter...the funny thing was...I think at one point he was something like 4 for 6 with 3 TD passes...

Notice that I put him in front of both Condon and Troth...yet Painter barely ever saw the field. I guess the knock on him was that he was small and short...but I don't care...he had a nice touch on the ball.

I actually think we can stick with Brock and still win the rest of our games with the exception of Toledo if we play well.

Don't mess up the red shirt for Brown...that's what hurt us with Dre Barnes...

The problem with Painter is that he got screwed by Coach Karcher. Any other coach would have him starting as a sophomore the following year but Karcher went back to Condon. Stupid move if you ask me.
