What does a mandatory military commitment have to do with anything Realist? Sounds to me like you might want to educate yourself a little more about history and the mission of the VMI. No one said that going to VMI makes you a real man, so why would you put that in quotes? There are plenty of jackasses at every school, VMI included...perhaps even more, but that again does not make anything about the military training at the Institute pretend. Believe me, there are just as many Dorks at the Academies...and even Winthrop.

Ok, I think I was a little grouchy last night, my post came off as abrasive to me just reading it again now. My apologies on the last half of the post.

I guess my main point was to defend SJ and Luconn, I don't think VMI is beyond a little good natured poking and ridiculing, as is everyone else. I also thought the VMI guy's statement "I am sure that we could arrange for you to spend a little time at "The Mother I" and see what your thoughts are after we have broken you down and built you back up." reeked of that "we make men" mentality that military schools like to promote. Personally, I think that stuff is a huge joke. If you need to be broken down and built back up, then you weren't much of a man to begin with. But I digress.

I guess I just don't get why anyone would want to go somewhere, get a military training, with no intentions of going into the military. That's where the "pretend" stuff comes from.

Really some folks go to a military school because they were trouble kids and they need to be reformed. Of course some go to a military school because they need that structure in their lives to help them get along as they should. I went because my grades out of high school were absoutely pathetic, not to mention I was generally apathetic about doing my homework or preparing for a test or the SAT or other stuff like that. Its possible to go to someplace like VMI (or anyplace similar) and simply go for that needed structure in their daily habits and academics to help them become better people in life.

It is also possible for someone to attend a military school for love of country, want to make the military a career, etc. I dont mind booing my opponents, but other then that Ii am not new school for the chants that go on now a day

There's a good point, FU chants are pretty lame and it seems like it's crept into every student section. It's bascially why WVU basketball isn't on TV anymore.

As a fan of a Big East school, who has seen Rutgers play many, many times, its disheartening to see the fans at Rutgers turn so quickly.

One of the worst experiences (and most memorable, for poor reasons) relating ot my life around college athletics, was up at Rutgers a few years back. Walking along with the team up the tunnell at Rutgers Stadium, there was a father, 2-year-old toddler in tow, yelling every obscenity in the book at the coaches as they came through.

Doesnt matter if you are Navy or the Dallas Cowboys, we just hate everything and have great mouths to prove it.

I know, I know, WVU fans have their moments, too. They are on TV a lot more now, though, so I don't know what conn is talking about. They have 8-10 nationally televised games per year now, where they had only 1 or 2 per year pre-Beilein.

All I know is a sheriff at the VMI game last year told me to get out of the Sparky suit with about 4 or 5 minutes left in the game or else they would get to me and Liberty would no longer have a mascot outfit. I thought it was kind of funny, but I can't see myself fighting off hundreds of VMI outfits. And I rooted for VMI against Winthrop in the MBB championship last season. But during the games, they're still West Point rejects.
