Seems some at BYU are having the same issue that SJ ran into last year with trying to get some game-day traditions to take root and for a larger percentage of participation from the fans:

However, I am well within the boundaries of truth when I say that, as a whole, the BYU fan community hasn’t quite caught on to the importance and effect of honoring and supporting traditions within the football program, whether at the games or otherwise. As a group, BYU fans haven’t fully embraced their vital role in building the success and reputation of BYU football.

It seems that many view some of the in-game traditions of BYU football as insignificant, or even embarrassing. Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall said it best in a recent video (posted on the home page of this site), “I don’t sit in the stands during a game, but I know what happens in these seats affects what happens on the field.” He uttered these words in a plea to BYU fans to simply wear blue to the games...

...This isn’t even an issue 40 miles to the north, where Ute fans constitute a sea of red bearing down on the opponents’ psyche while lifting and reinforcing their own team.

Seems there is something the Mormons & Baptist can learn from the Catholics...how to build traditions and a great game-day atmosphere...

Here's to the progress already made last year...and to the continued rise to big time football (and the awesome collegiate atmosphere that should accompany it.)
