At Towson we were driving, and the receiver fumbled.

Against W&M he set us up for the game winning kick.

Against G-W he set up up for the game-tying kick.

Against Coastal he put us in position to convert the game-tying 2-point conversion but we were called for an upsportsman-like penalty.

Those games weren't Brock's fault. He put us in position to win in every single one of them.

We convert those kicks, don't drop the pass, don't commit the penalty, and Brock Smith is everyone's favorite player on the field. Hey, it worked for Tom Brady.

Besides, correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Smith only a junior this year? I doubt the NCAA will let us redshirt Summers a second year on the basis that the coach is waiting patiently for the QB to graduate.

I do think there are quite a few on this board who must be friends with the receivers as much as they overstate the talent. They are definately very good, but don't kid yourself that Summers is really the 6.

Based on everything I've read and the interviews I've heard, I think you guys are the ones overstating the talent on the Summers end. It's outstanding that this kid fell into our laps but a true freshman that weighs slightly more than your standard garden gnome? Don't kid yourself that he should be rated any higher than what he is.

Secondly, you asked me to correct you if you're wrong, so here we go. Hypothetically, if Brock gets benched for ineffectiveness this season, then why would Rocco start him next season???????????? it's just a thought.

Towson game: no interceptions. Drives were lost due to punts (9), field goal, and fumble. The fumble was on the Towson 12 yard line with 2:12 left in the game. We had driven 49 yards on five plays. Brock put us in position to win that game.

As for Brock being ineffective, if you call completely half of the passes you throw for an average of nearly ten yards ineffective, then ok.

It's refreshing that someone on this site has actually acknowledged that Rashad was somewhat of a dissappointment against the better teams last year. And dare I take it a step further and actually suggest that Zach may the better RB.

As far as Brock is concerned, he needs to get it done in the most critical situations. That's how you win. John Elway and Jim McMahon never had flashy stats, but they always won, because they made plays in critical situations. All winning programs understand this.

Zach Terrell's the best offensive player we have. I've said that since last year.

As for Brock, he "got it done in the most critical situations." He wasn't the one who fumbled. He wasn't the one who missed the kick. He did like Tom Brady, and got us in position to win. We just didn't take it.



Knucklehead, I meant to answer your redshirt question but got sidetracked. There are a few reasons to redshirt freshmen. I'll go ahead and warn you, I absolutely love redshirting kids so this will be slanted:

1) Redshirting the player gives them five years to graduate. This seriously helps them on their academics. They can take 12 credit hours a semester (four classes) and still graduate on time. This is the same course load they are used to from high school in most cases, and it allows them to keep up on their academics and still play. Many players take five years to graduate anyways, so they're still here even after their eligibility runs up.

2) Many freshmen coming out of high school have the ability, but they don't have the mental makeup or the physical makeup to compete at our level of football. You give them a year to adjust to being in college and adjust to college life, along with another year to develop physically, and you instantly become a better player. A 22-23 year old fifth-year senior is generally better physically and mentally than an 18 year old freshman. The maturity level is so higher it's hard to argue against it.

3) In many cases, a freshman may be able to compete in the #3 spot, maybe #2 at their position. However, in an ideal situation, you would have a junior or senior in the starting position. Instead of wasting a year of eligibilty being the #3, redshirt the player, let him be the backup their redshirt freshman year, and then you have three years of them starting as opposed to only two.

Those are my three biggest reasons why I like the redshirting option. Coach Rocco's may be different, I don't know. That's just how I look at it, personally.

This semester, I have three classes for that minor, one being specifically football and another being coaching in general. I've been around certain coaches before, but it's good to get an idea of how other people do things. That's why I like watching our practice. To get good at something, one of the best ways to do it is to watch someone who's already good at it and try to learn from them. That's what I'm doing.

I feel ya on this one. And I'm not afraid to second guess Coach Rocco. There are a few scenarios that can potentially pan out that will and should lead to second-guessing from the fanbase. And that goes with the territory.

Actually, I already conceded that Summers will be redshirted after JCMASON's post.

No, I haven't been to practice, but I've heard from a staff member that Rocco and his staff are extemely high on Summers. So, naturally I'm going to have questions as to why he's not competing this year. From what I've heard, he's not fifth on the depth chart. So, there must be other reasons. Perhaps, he is a bit too thin, bit we have at least one starter who is comparably thin, even as a senior.


Brock never lost any games for us? Okay, well, he never won any for us either, so what is your point? My point is that the guy needs to step it up. Wear the blinders if you will, but if Brock doesn't come through in critical situations, then we don't win the big games.
