FYI
Saw him play it on Kimmel. Not bad for an old guy. The album (or LP, as you hags refer to them) is out, too.

Ok, July and August are packed with new stuff coming out. Things I've gotten lately:

Sum 41 - Underclass Heroes - not bad, nothing great, summertime record
Mayday Parade - A Lesson In Romantics - I love this cd, and I don't know why
MxPx - Secret Weapon - good cd. Their best in years.
Hidden In Plain View - Resolution - just listening to it now, not bad, nothing special
The Honorary Title - Scream and Light Up The Sky - haven't listened yet
Reel Big Fish - Monkeys For Nothin and the Chimps Are Free - their best cd in a long time, by far.
Mae - Singularity - pretty good cd. At first listen, I liked The Everglow better, but I'm gonna give it a few more chances.
The Starting Line - Direction - better than their last one, haven't listened enough to tell if it's really good or not

I think that's all the new stuff.

I have only listened to a few of those cd's:

Sum 41....sounds the same as all their other cd's....
MxPx....as you said, the best thing they've put out in years...
The Honorary Title.....I have heard a few of the tracks and really like it
Mae.....its not bad, but it doesn't sound like the Mae i know, but I do like the sound, it just sounds like a different band, thats all

The Starting Line....much, MUCH better then their last cd....

those are my opinions...I am sure they are valued...haha

The Sum41 cd doesn't sound at all like their last one, Chuck. They took the metal influences that made that cd "Um, this is Sum41?" and went back to what sounded like them.

I had the Honorary Title on when I was playing a video game earlier and liked what I heard.

I find Sum 41 to be extremely annoying...listened to 3 songs on this newest cd and found it to be no different...thats just my opinion though

and yeah...I have always like the honorary title

Sum41 is good on days when it's sunny, the weather is great, and you're driving. They're one of those type of bands for me.

the only sum 41 cd worth listening to is their first one, half hour of power.

I haven't heard that one.

I heard Sum41's single and liked it, reminded me a lot of Fat Lip, that's why I downloaded the cd. Already taken it off of the "new things to listen to" playlist.

I'm really glad the Reel Big Fish one is good because there hasn't been a good ska album in a while. I know most people hate ska, but I've always been a fan of it.

The newest stuff I've got in iTunes (not including the Capitol Steps stuff I just downloaded.)

"How Does She Feel," "You Saved Me," and "I Had Loved" by Infant. VERY young band (lead vox is only 16), so not highly polished yet, but there's potential there. Sort of a power-pop/rock sound.

"Permanent Ink" and "In a Sense" from Attaboy. Pop punk, reminds me a little of Reliant K, actually.

"Renew," "Requiem of Shame," and "Through the Blood" by Remnant Tribe. Acoustic, but different somehow. Pretty good stuff.

Downloaded the title track for MxPx's new one, and love it. May actually have to buy that one.

None of that was actually bought on iTunes -- last thing I bought there was David Allen Coe and a George Jones song. Yes, I am musically schizophrenic.

Dude, I've always wanted to name a band Attakid. I guess that's out now.

Maybe the lead singer has been a little distracted with his wife Avril to write good music. 8)

I'm on an americana kick right now. Am really loving stuff from M. Ward (who's an amazing acoustic guitarist in his own right), and Calexico. Throw in a little Iron & Wine, and my summer's been taken back in time to the old west.

Check out M.Ward on youtube. great stuff.

ALUmnus, if you like those bands you would probably also really like William Fitzsimmons and Ray Lamontagne, you should check those guys out.

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero

and for the wife...

Michael Bublé - Call Me Irresponsible

Yeah, I haven't been on top of things lately. Everything there has been surprisingly impressive so far, though.
I went with my wife to see Buble in Fairfax at the Patriot Center on 08/11. Seemed that most of the guys there were either gay or were there because their spouses brought them.
The entire band / orchestra is pretty talented...it's just not my style.

Heh. I wrote that a while back, but my take on Buble is pretty much what you said. I wouldn't say I greatly enjoy it, but I don't think it's bad music or anything. "Standards" are cool as mood music or whatever, but I'm just not going to ride along in the car rocking out old Sinatra tunes. Still, I'd rather listen to Buble than a whole lot of other things.

Icky Thump by the White Stripes is a solid album and my favorite so far this year. The wife and I saw them in concert last month in Fairfax, VA (GMU) and they were amazing. If you ever get the chance to catch them live, do yourself the favor!

I would actually agree that Icky Thump isn't on the same level as their self-titled album, De Stijl or White Blood Cells. Elephant was great to me, yet over-hyped. Get Behind Me Satan was a disappointment for me but I understand that Jack wanted to go in a different direction. I was just saying that, in my opinion, Icky Thump is a solid album that's worth checking out and is my personal favorite of 2007. Their live show is the best I've seen, hands down.

i liked white blood cells and destijl (i love that southern can song on there hahaha) the best as well. i'm not confident they'll ever be able to get that good again, and since those are their first two cds I ever bought, i reckon i got spoiled.
