we drop both matches, low goal scoring - hopefully just a side effect of the early season play, but judging by shots and corners, we are not creating opportunities to score.

Cal State Fullerton Edges Liberty with Late Goal
August 21, 2015
Fullerton, Calif.

The Liberty women's soccer team looked to start the 2015 season off with a win, Friday night, squaring off with Cal State Fullerton in the opening round of the Fullerton Tournament. Each team went scoreless for over 84 minutes, until Titans midfielder Christian Burkenroad posted a late goal to give Fullerton the 1-0 win.

With the defeat at Titans Stadium, Liberty begins the year 0-1. Fullerton, the 2014 Big West champions, are off to a 1-0 start.

Burkenroad's goal in the 85th minute was set up by a Rebecca Wilson cross on the right side near the baseline. Wilson's cross went into the 18-yard box, allowing Sarah Fajnor to flick a pass to Burkenroad. The midfielder settled the ball on the left side of the box and fired a shot from 12 yards to clinch the contest.

Fullerton outshot Liberty overall, 14-6, and on goal, 7-4. The Titans also held a 7-3 advantage on corner kicks. Liberty sophomore forward Jennifer Knoebel paced the Lady Flames with three shots, two of which were on goal.

Trio of Goals Puts UC Riverside Over Lady Flames
August 23, 2015
Fullerton, Calif.

Looking to bounce back from a 1-0 loss to Cal State Fullerton, Friday, the Liberty women's soccer team returned to Titan Stadium on Sunday, squaring off with UC Riverside. Unfortunately for the Lady Flames, the high octane offense displayed by the Highlanders led to a 3-1 victory for the Big West member.

With the defeat, Liberty starts the season 0-2 for the first time since the 2008 season. Riverside moves to 1-1 on the year.

Fullerton, Calif., native and senior midfielder Brittany Aanderud posted Liberty's lone goal with 20 seconds left in the contest. The marker gave Aanderud 52 points for her collegiate career, surpassing Aimee Luurtsema (2008-11, 51) for fourth place in program history.

Brittany Mata, Marriah Perez and Tyler Cunningham accounted for Riverside's three goals. Blanca Barrio led the Highlanders with two assists, while Dainelle Lopez and Tayler Dragoo each had one.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord finished the contest with 13 saves, tying her career high, which she set two years to the day (Aug. 23, 2013) in her first collegiate match against Charlotte. Highlanders' netminder Elizabeth Silas finished the contest with three saves.

Riverside outshot Liberty, 24-8, including 16-2 on goal. The Highlanders also held a 13-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Combine the score with the stats you highlited and it basically adds up to a butt-kicking. I don´t know how good Fullerton is, so I can´t read too much into it. Our ladies are picked to win the BSC this year.
