After last weekends showing I thought that we might turn it around from here on out, but I guess I was wrong. I went to the VT game for the first few innings and Storm had a short leash on the pitchers. We are in desperate need for someone to step up and become our solid midweek starter so we can eat up some midweek wins. I know it probably sucked with the horrible turn around from William and Mary to an afternoon game the next day, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up.

I thought the VT game was at 7, why did they change the time?

Church and VT wanted it in the afternoon.

As for the pitching, this says a lot:
“We’re going to make a run on the weekends; we’ve got to try to finish in the top four in the league to avoid that play-in game (in the conference tournament),” Toman said. “Midweek, we were going to save our arms, get our guys on a nice rotation, well-rested for the weekend. We haven’t won enough games to be considered as an at-large team (for the NCAA tournament). Right now, we’re focusing on keeping our arms healthy for the weekend.”
That's why he went through some of the guys who normally don't pitch.

So, bottom line we don't have enough solid arms at this point. Thus the point, give the guy a chance to bring in his own arms.

It also shows that he went out from the outset of the season trying to get an at-large bid, but once that was out of reach, he started focusing on what would be our best shot at getting into the NCAA tournament.

i like toman's mentality. hoepfully this pays off by the time the BSC tournament happens, as we know how our arms were the past few tournaments.

Our chances look excellent for a second place finish! We are 8-4, and VMI is 10-5, but their remaining series is with Coastal (10-2), while we play Winthrop (6-6) and Chuck South (4 and eight) I'd say with all the nay-saying that has been going on, the guys have performed admirably in conference, especially when you consider that 2 of our losses were extra-inning nailbiters. If either of those games had gone the other way we would be in the mix for the top seed.

Toman has done well considering he did not recruit any of these players. The real test will be in a few years when he gets his guys in here.

This team works hard and has a great attitude. The freshman Evans shut down a great hitting W&M team last week, so perhaps he can give the team some weekend depth, and certainly will help come tournament time. The whole key will be for LU to be in the top 4, to avoid the two play-in games. I think we'll do fine.

can we get over the hump?

This girl seems to think so...I guess she wrote a song about it or something...

Youre welcome captain sarcasm...but in all serious, Im digging what Im seeing right now. As tough as things went during non-conference play, to have the guys solidly in the upper half of the conference right now. The downers are just praying we have another slump Im sure.

Congratulations on the progress of bringing this team back to our usual BSC performance! Still fail to see how a few voices in the political machine justify the treatment of winning coaches and families by a rookie AD. Looks to me like this group had some talent left behind after all. As for basketball we continue to have invitation only pep rallies for our 4th place finish.

No pep rallies for 4th place checkers, but there was some celebrating going on for our first round tournament win! BTW, following the first round, last years MBB team was 8-7 overall against BSC opponents, the same record at that point as the previous years team which had Blair, Brewington and a healthy Tyler Baker. The difference of course is that unlike the previous 3 years, they had another game to play!

Actually, congratulations are not yet in order for this year's baseball team. I'm glad to see us contending for second place, but what we do in the conference tournament will be much more important.

:koolaid :liar :boohoo Drink it, spin it and rationalize it away. The core group of pr agents will add a cheer or two. The finish to the season was almost as dismal as the VMI team we beat in the first round. But I am sure great things are ahead.

Ive gone on record as saying that Im not a Kool-Aid guy when it comes to Liberty. Am I a fan? Well duh...and I liked a lot of what I saw this year even with the end being as disappointing as it was. Baseball hit a rough stretch in teh middle but it looks like the guys are coming back around even in light of todays disappointing result. Storm and RMK are in their first seasons and are doing well in my opinion for a brand new coach in the situation they were each put into. Do we tend to put up some high expectations? well some people yes...there are many of us who are keeping a fairly even keel about the whole thing and also have no problem moving forward (which some people have obvious issue with judging by some of the discussions on this board and the direction they tend to take). Will we get over the hump, I definitely think so. Will it take one year...no, I dont think so. Look at the football team. they went from 1-10 overall to 6-5 in the first year. The team was buying into what Coach Rocco was about and the play on the field showed. The next year, the team went 8-3 and won the conference. That was a +7 in two years. I think the better barometer of the baseball and basketball programs will be the 2008-2009 season. Women's Soccer will have a brand new face on the sideline next year. What kind of expectations are we going to have? I am curious the thoughts everyone has.

The team is a little below what I expected at this point of the season. They have shown some improvement in the last few weeks despite injuries and poor defensive play and maybe the team is finally buying into Coach Toman's philosophies. As long as we finish at least 2nd or 3rd in the conference and can win a few of the remaining games against Colonial conference teams I will be satisfied. I am not expecting us to get to post season and you are right about putting too much expectations on a first year coach. Just can't do it even with the number of upperclassmen in the lineup.

don't forget that all of the players on this years team are not Toman's recruits.

Are you serious? Please tell me that this screen name is just someone else joking around, and that you really aren't THIS obsessed with the freaking CAA. If you are serious, then I think William and Mary could use another fanboy, so you should find a good Tribe Fansite to crush over the CAA on.

And, unfortunately, we only play one more CAA team, steve. You can always go check out Towson at VCU next weekend, since there will be REAL baseball played there, apparently.
