NATIONAL HONOR ROLL : week of APRIL 19, 2006

Flames’ Third Baseman Miller Named To National Honor Roll
April 20, 2006 · Lynchburg, Va.

Liberty senior third baseman Chad Miller has been named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll for the week of April 19, the organization announced.

Miller, a native of Wheat Ridge, Colo., hit for the cycle, a single, double, triple and home run, in his first four at bats as the Flames downed Longwood, 8-0, Tuesday afternoon at Worthington Stadium. The senior also drove in two runs and scored twice during his 4-for-5 afternoon.

Liberty jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead as Miller got the Flames started with a lead off home run. It was the third baseman’s fourth home run of the season.

The pitcher was one of 37 players to be selected to the list. The College Baseball Foundation releases the National Honor Roll on a weekly basis saluting the finest performances in college baseball in the past week.

On the season, Miller has hit .344 in 39 starts at third for the Flames. He has driven in 34 runs and scored 41. The senior is also among the Big South leaders with 14 steals. The third baseman also has the longest consecutive hit streak by a Liberty player this season as he hit in 13 straight games from March 17 – April 9.

He becomes the second Liberty player to be named to the weekly list this season as sophomore left-hander Ryan Page was selected to the March 19 roll.

Miller and the Flames, who are 29-10 and 8-4 in the Big South Conference, host the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in a three-game weekend series at Worthington Stadium, Saturday-Monday. The series opener is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Miller batted .619 (13-21) in five games last week, leading Liberty to three victories and a Big South series win over Coastal Carolina to push the Flames into a three-way tie for first-place in the League standings. He opened the week hitting for the cycle in his first four at-bats in an 8-0 win over Longwood.

Miller hit .538 (7-13) against the Chanticleers, including three doubles, three runs, three runs batted in and three walks, while posting three hits each in games one and two vs. CCU. Minor quibble: BSC (9-3 in Big South) is actually 1/2 game up on Winthrop and Liberty (both 10-5). Carry on.
