I hope they don't rule Rod Delmonico out automatically just because he has coached at a higher level of competition (and compensation). So had McKay, and he had a contract buyout too, which actually worked to our advantage and enabled us to get him at a relative "bargain" salary. This guy is an impressive individual with big-time D1 experience and is an LU grad. It certainly couldn't hurt to put out a feeler.

Impressive resume. Would be nice if he could be swayed. But why leave a job where he is the king right now!

Not going to happen. It's similar to Coach Edwards leaving your baseball program several years ago.

Delmonico just got fired...and he was anything BUT the king there the past few years. The UT fans are doing :cartwheels over his dismissal.

Rumor mill says that at least one fomer family member will be in the mix, but not the one everyone thinks. There will also be one of the Trinity considered. (Things are subject to change however, but not likely). In addition there are a couple of very qualified non-family members in the mix, who would be excellent fits.
We will just have to be content and patient, sit around and make up lies, and see what happens. Whatever happens, I think it will be positive for LU and that is all that matters.

I'm all about lies and rumors...that what makes the thread tick. We just need to keep the personalities of the former staff debate out of it.

Now, I know there is a former alum who has definite coaching experience...at the MLB level...
...Tony Beasley

Talked to a few people in the coaching area, and they didn't really see Delmonico as someone who would come close to fitting into Liberty. I had heard that before, but just wanted to find out for sure.

Fumble, I was thinking of Beasley, too: African American with MLB coaching experience with the Nats and an LU alum.

He certainly has a winning track record based on his minor league managerial record...and then they could hire someone with the college experience to come in as recruiting coordinator.

And, at 41, Beasley is the same age as McKay, which means he (TB) isn't exactly an :oldhag yet.

Just trying to engage in some very uninformed speculation...
...and offering any information to shoot down said speculation, is just as fun.

Oh I understand, I just wanted to let those know who maybe possible and who may not be.

I think Tony's 3 recommendations maybe the same as we've been hearing! :)

I spoke with Coach Tomlin yesterday as He was in Lynchburg all day, and He is not applying for the job. However He is very excited for what lies ahead for the program. He feels strongly that Doctor Falwell made it clear what He wanted. Jeff Barber has a great vision for the program, and that Jeff is a great leader and will make a choice that will raise the level of the program to take it far beyond where it is now. This is not a speculation.

Maybe Tomlin will serve as a consultant, just like how Coach Sam did when we were looking for a football coach.

For the record. This is not entirely accurate.

That's pretty funny, but in the same token sad too, because he was really good with ESPN

Tomlin will certainly not be applying for the position (that much was correct), but he also has differring views than was stated as to the direction of the program. Royer was not the only point of contention that Tomlin had at the time he left. He and JB did not see very eye-to-eye, either. Consultation will NOT be taking place.

But of course, Tomlin is smart enough to keep his disagreements to himself, for the most part...especially to all players.
