Minor League Update

Pretty nice news here. Roger Clemens made his rehab start in Trenton where former flame pitcher Jason Jones has been throwing this year in AA. Jones is 3-2 this year with a 3.23 ERA (after today's start) with 42.1 innings and 34 K's.

David Bechtold has hung 'em up after tweaking his elbow again. Dave had a great spring training and was headed to High A, but would probably need tommy john, so decided to pursue his career elsewhere.

3 guys from last years team are playing Independent League baseball. Phil Laurent with the River City Rascals (Frontier League) had 2 hits in the season opener last night. Chad Miller with the Evansville Otters (Frontier League) went 0-3 in the opener against River City last night. Mike Just who swung it very well in the Frontier League last year with River City, left Laurent and the Rascals, and was traded to Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks of the Northern League, and is hitting .267 after 7 games.

A little extra news. Former outfielder Jeremy Boles is now assistant coach of the Young Harris Junior College baseball team. The Young Harris team is one of 8 JUCO teams left and begin the NJCAA Div I Baseball World Series this weekend. Young Harris opens up with the #1 ranked team in the nation, New Mexico, on Saturday at 3 PM. Good luck to them, one of our fellow Christian teams.

I have been following Jennings numbers from time to time and was wondering with all the pitching call-ups if he would ever get a spot start in the show. A few more guys go down i guess you never know.

I know some will laugh at this but when the name David Bechtold gets thrown around the only thing i can think of is Crystal Tharp haha.

I was thinking the same thing, rocketfan. But PAmedic now tries to pretend he has no idea who Kristal is.

Steve Baker made it to AA last year, but I haven't found anything on him this year, so I guess he quit.

Hagen was hitting below Mendoza in single-A last year, he also got a taste of double-A but went 0-11. I think he's playing with the Rockford Riverhawks, in the indy-frontier league.

There are a couple other players that played in the Indy Leagues last year who used to be Flames, Dan Valentin and Bryan Adams.

Really surprised to see that none of our early-2000 players (such as Valentin) have made it to the Bigs. Those teams were stacked -- Keith Butler & Joey Monahan were all-americans, Larry Wayne York, Erich Cloninger, Josh brey, Baker, and Hagen were drafted, and you had some other greats on those teams -- Kelly Knouse, Marcus Maringola come to mind...

Laurent is now officially tearing it up in the Frontier League. Second in the league in HR.

.361 7 HR, 23 RBI, 4 DB

Chad Miller is struggling a little bit right now, and has only seen action in 8 games hitting about .118.

Just is still solid around .333

Jason Jones is pitching very well, in AA Trenton, for the Yanks. He is 4-4, but has pitched very well with a 3.10 ERA there.

I'd like to see JJ get his ERA down a little more, hopefully he will get a end of the season call up to AAA (depends of in they make the playoffs)

Bechtold moved to OH to be with Crystal. Sweaty smelly men traveling around in a bus all summer or Crystal Tharp, this decision proved what we already knew...he's a smart guy!
