DOOOOOOOOKSSS

I'm sure the rivalry isn't what it was back in the day at city stadium, but I'd love to see the guys beat the snot outta them all the same.

They are coming off a 15-4 drubbing of Fairfield on Sunday, completing a 3 game sweep, and are 3-4 on the year.

They've lost to 3 games to Clemson, lost 4-1 to George Washington, and outscored Fairfield 46-11 in their last series. Other teams on the schedule this year include Delaward, Wagner, LONGWOOD, WILLIAM and MARY, VCU, VTech, ODU, RADFORD, RICHMOND, GEORGE MASON, GEORGE WASHINGTON, Towson and Maryland.

Gee, alot of those names look familiar. Remind me again how weak OUR schedule is.

A lot of similarities, yes, because the JMU coach may be in the same hot seat the LU coach was last year, before padding the record with a bunch of patsies.

will try to tune in and follow along today- however, I'm working and people tend to get sick or injured at the MOST inopportune times.

Reading the pdf file on the game and came accross this stat, which I found interesting. I know I've missed most of the last 2 decades, but I had no idea this series was as old as it apparently is.
The Series Against James Madison
Wednesday will be the 52nd meeting between the Flames and Dukes on the diamond.
James Madison holds a 26-25 edge in the series. Last season, Liberty took the
only meeting between the two teams as the Flames defeated the Dukes, 9-4, at Mauck
Stadium. The scheduled meeting between the teams at Worthington Stadium in
Lynchburg was canceled due to weather.

10-5 in college baseball isn't really getting smoked. It's not close, but it's not horrible.

it really does not matter what terminology is used, we lost...period. We need to be beating some of these teams down the road.

I agree. Wins against these types of teams are what really matters. The cukecakes don't do a whole lot to prepare us for conference play or these calibre of teams.

Thanks- nice to hear it once in a while, as opposed to being punched, attempted stabbings by pyschotic patients (twice now) and spit on (in the face).

And we're expecting another 5" of snow and ice today. YEESH. I can't even imagine sitting outside at a baseball game right now- thats why I enjoy listening online, kinda gives you a mental break!

James Madison Snaps Liberty’s Five-Game Win Streak
March 1, 2006 · Harrisonburg, Va.

The James Madison Dukes broke a 3-3 tie with three sixth inning runs en route to a 10-5 victory over the Liberty Flames, Wednesday afternoon at Mauck Stadium, snapping Liberty’s five-game winning streak.

With their own four-game winning streak, the Dukes evened their record at 4-4 on the season, while the Flames fall to 7-3.

Liberty took a 2-0 advantage in the first inning. After loading the bases with one out, Patrick Gaillard (Jr., SS, Taylors, S.C.), who led off the game with a single, scored on a wild pitch for the Flames’ first run. Chad Miller (Sr., 3B, Wheat Ridge, Colo.) then scored on a ground out by P.K. Keller (So., CF, St. Petersburg, Fla.).

James Madison went in front, 3-2, in the second inning. With the bases loaded, the Dukes plated their first run of the afternoon as Mitchell Moses scored on a balk. Two batters later, a Matt Bristow two-run double with two outs would give James Madison the lead.

In the third, the Flames’ Gaillard tied the game, 3-3, with his second home run of the season, a solo round tripper to right center.

The Dukes three innings later would grab the lead for good with three runs in the sixth inning. With runners on second and third and one out, a sacrifice fly by Davis Stoneburner scored Joe Lake for a 4-3 lead. After a pitching change, Kellen Kulbacki singled to center to chase home another run and Michael Cowgill followed with a double to score Kulbacki for a 6-3 advantage.

Liberty cut the lead to 6-5 in their next at bat in the seventh inning. Derek Bennion (r-Jr., RF, Snohomish, Wash.) doubled sharply down the left field line to lead off the inning and scored on a two-out single by Miller, who advanced to third on the play when the James Madison right field ran past the ball for a two base error. Michael Just (Sr., 2B, Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) then followed with an RBI double to plate the Flames’ third baseman.

In the bottom of the frame, the Dukes extended their lead to 8-6 on a double by Matt Schill, an RBI triple by Lake and an RBI double by Bristow.

James Madison added insurance in the eighth on a two-run single by Schill with the bases loaded, the fourth hit of the day for the first baseman.

Liberty used seven pitchers on the afternoon. Dane Beakler (Fr., RHP, York, Pa.), the third Flames’ pitcher of the day, picked up his first loss of the season (0-1), while James Madison starter Jacob Cook, after a rocky first inning, settled down to allow four runs on five hits in 6 1/3 innings to run his record to 1-1.

The Flames return home for a three-game weekend series with the Hartford Hawks beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. First pitch Saturday is set for 11 a.m.

good thing the guys get a couple days off. 7 pitchers? hope that isn't a sign of things to come. Too early in the season to be wearing out arms.

JMU defeats LU in baseball
From staff reports
Lynchburg News & Advance
March 2, 2006

HARRISONBURG - Senior first baseman Nate Schill went 4-for-5 and drove in two late insurance runs to lead James Madison to a 10-5 victory over Liberty in non-conference baseball game Wednesday at Long Field/Mauck Stadium.
The Dukes (4-4) won their fourth straight game and snapped the Flames' (7-3) five-game win streak.

Junior left-hander Jacob Cook earned the victory with 6 1/3 innings. After yielding two runs on a hit and a pair of walks in the first inning, Cook settled in to scatter four hits and two runs over the final 5 2/3. He walked three and fanned four.

Senior left fielder Matt Bristow added three hits, including a pair of doubles, to the Dukes' 14-hit attack. His double to center field in the second inning pushed the Dukes to a 3-2 lead.

Liberty junior shortstop Patrick Gaillard tied the score with a solo homer in the top of the third, his second homer of the season. He was the only Flame to collect more than one hit, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and one RBI.

The score remained tied until the Dukes broke loose with a three-run sixth. Junior Davis Stoneburner snapped the deadlock with a sacrifice fly that allowed redshirt sophomore third baseman Joe Lake to trot in from third. Lake had walked prior to a Bristow single and both advanced on one of four balks called against the LU pitching staff.
