Kendall Rogers (probably the #1 sportswriter in college baseball) listed LU as one of his top “turnaround” teams this year. I’m starting to see why, this team has some talent.

They also take game 2, 3-0, Blair with a good outing on the mound. Mathiesen was sensational in game 1.

St Johns typically has a good baseball team and we worked them over pretty good this weekend for the sweep.

I think I was most impressed by the pitching and defense. Walks were kept to a minimum and they held St John’s to 1 extra base hit the entire series despite using nearly all of our pitchers. It drove me crazy the last couple years with so many of our guys struggling to find the strike zone.

4-0
Flames down 3 in the 9th scored 4 in the top of the inning!
Then put up a shutdown bottom of the 9th to beat #12 NC State 9-8.

I had no idea what to expect coming into the season but after these 4 games it’s getting difficult to not be overly excited.
I’m trying to control my excitement to avoid unrealistic expectations.

Baseball season is a series of peaks and valleys.
This team still needs to produce a consistent Friday, Saturday and Sunday starter before getting too excited. As Ill Flame mentioned previously, need this staff to avoid free passes. We won today in spite of some free traffic on the bases.
It does look like there will be a more consistent lineup.

Fell behind 7-0 early today and came back to win it 10-7 scoring 4 in the bottom of the eighth. Fantastic win today.

Can’t win ‘em all. First loss of the season today. Certainly can’t win ‘em all when you walk 11 and hit one batter

Is the pitching lab finished? 11 walks is crazy.

Looks like we haven’t moved past our issues with walks from the last couple of seasons. This team is going to score and make plays on defense. I’d much rather have our pitchers have a pitch to contact approach than these constant walks and strike outs. If the other team manages to out hit us so be it.

Great mid-week win tonight over Duke. The bats exploded with lots of XBH. Barone had 2 HR and 5 RBI.

Excellent performance from Blair! With the help of August, the pair were able to save the rest of the pen for tomorrow. Happy to see Simmons in - I’d like to see him lead-off.

I know some of these losses hurt, but overall, this team is better than I feared, and may accomplish my goal for them this season - making the NCAA tournament. Hopefully we’ll get Simmons at leadoff and full time.

Solid win tonight. Sorenson continues to impress and provide power - Mathieson rebounds well with four scoreless innings, while Frankel and McLaughlin yield solid results. Tucker Moore with a big two run shot in the 9th after Decandido walked with two outs to keep the inning going. I’d still like to see Simmons work in to this lineup, but all the same, a win is a win.
Hopefully we can sweep and get to 11-4 before visiting Clemson for a pair.

2-0 so far this week. It’s important to complete this series with at least one more win if not a sweep. Impressive outing from Decandido, on base 4 times with a homer.

Managed 4-0 - now comes another tough week. 2 at #10/5 Clemson, then 4 games against Princeton. I think 4-2 is reasonable and acceptable, but you’d love to take one at Clemson.

I was a big Jackson fan. But with the way the program had been going it’s hard for me to imagine we’d be 16-6 with the 3 ACC wins we have if he was still here.

I'm hardly an insider but it just seemed like Jackson lost the fire and was content with mediocrity. I could be totally wrong, but that's just how I felt in the last two seasons.
Conference play is soon to begin, but I think most of us are pleasantly surprised and pleased with the team's performance so far this year!

I completely agree about the last two seasons. I can’t put my finger on it but something seemed off. He just did so much for us I wanted to give him the benefit of doubt and turn it around. My freshman year was 2008 and I know those were the first two losing seasons I’ve ever seen and it was a brutal watch.
