Games 39-42 at UNC/at Stetson

Coming of our first 4-0 week since the first week of March we have 4 road games this week. We are 26-12 overall and 12-6 in the ASUN good for second in the east one game behind KSU and one game ahead of FGCU.
Tuesday we travel to Chapel Hill. We beat the Tar Heels at home 1-0 early in the season I believe Aaron Anderson hit a first inning homerun for the games only run if I'm not mistaken. UNC is 23-17 and #49 in the RPI.

This weekend we travel to Stetson. We lost the series 2 games to 1 in Lynchburg in our previous meeting. They are 5-13 in the ASUN good for 6th in the division and #163 in the RPI.

I think an at-large bid to the tournament is still in play IF we can finish strong. Our weekend rotation has been much improved since Jackson switched things up and Matthieu has looked like a new man the last few weeks. Gulakowski had an amazing series against UNF lets hope he keeps that up and cuts back on strikeouts moving forward.

KSU travels to UNF this weekend and FGCU travels to Jacksonville.

The UNC game was changed to Wednesday at 4. Supposed to be bad weather in Chapel Hill tomorrow.

I was just looking over some stats for Stetson this weekend since I didn't get to include them in the original post. I'm sure anyone that watched that series remembers Cameron Hill the centerfielder. He absolutely torched us all weekend. In Stetson's 18 wins this year (he's missed one game so they have 19 total wins) he has a .414/.529/.600 slash line with 16 RBI. In their 21 losses he has a .289/.375/.386 slash with 4 RBI. So lets hope we don't let one guy absolutely hammer us again like Hill and Zach Neto with Campbell did.

We unfortunately fall to UNC yesterday. Rough day for the offense.
D1 baseball released tournament projections. They have us as the 3 seed in the Blacksburg regional as the ASUN champions with the auto bid. Good to note also they have Kennesaw State as an at-large as a 3 seed in the Auburn regional.
A strong conference finish plus a win over VT or Wake Forest will hopefully put us over the edge should we falter in the conference tourney.

Garret Horn is through 6 no hit innings. If you read that and assumed we were winning or at least tied you’d be wrong…1-0 Stetson going to the 7th.

Horn goes 7 no hit innings. Fluharty pitches a scoreless 8th but loses the no no.
Gulakowski goes ya ya top 8 to tie it up.
1-1 going to the 9th.

Flames win 2-1 in 15 innings. Great pitching on both sides.

Boring and beautiful...no clue how Stetson doesn’t have a better conference record with that pitching staff.

Not surprisingly, the 24 combined strikeouts was a school record.

KSU lost yesterday. FGCU won. So we are tied with the Owls for first and FGCU is one game behind us.

Why is Gulakowski not playing today. He has been our best hitter lately

We finally get our first hit of the game in the 6th. We load the bases with no outs and score 1.
5-1 going to the 7th.
We’ve scored 4 runs in the last 30 innings.

He did homer yesterday but he’s 2 for his last 14 with 7 strikeouts.

And just avoiding the lefty lefty matchup.

5-1 is the final. We’ve scored 4 runs in the last 33 innings guys….that’s suboptimal.
Stetson has 6 conference wins and 3 are against us. Just one of those frustrating and seemingly unexplainable situations where they just have our number even though we are the better team…I think.

And somehow we won a game which is a real head scratcher.

Much better start to today’s game. 6-0 good guys in the top of the 6th.
We are 1 game back of KSU currently trailing UNF 3-0 top 3rd.
We are 1 game ahead of FGCU currently trailing Jacksonville 3-0 top 3rd.
