Reading Chris Lang's comment about Presbyterian not being a layup this week-end in the UVA thread prompted me to look at the current RPI's of all the Big South schools (and the conference as a whole).

School Rank
Coastal Carolina - 54
High Point - 63
Presbyterian - 69
Campbell - 74
Gardner-Webb - 104
Liberty - 122
Winthrop - 136
Longwood - 147
Radford - 158
North Carolina-Asheville - 185
Charleston Southern - 219

Conference Rank
C-USA - 9
Big South - 10
Sun Belt - 13

Big swings this time of year. SoS accounts for app. 75% of RPI. Libery's RPI rank jumped from 122 to 98 overnight. Last night's win obviously helped but SOS (wins by teams we've played & wins by the teams they have played) apparently kicked in bigtime.

We climbed up to number 39 after another sweep. If we maintain a top 40 rpi and get a couple ranked wins then were a lock. Coastal was in the 40s and campbell the 60s so we will need to show well there.

The Big South is a top ten league. I thought we had know at large chance after the way we started but we are right in the thick of it. Gotta win the games we are supposed to, not get swept by Coastal, and pick up a signature win or two and we will be in good shape.

Looking at it this morning, Coastal, Radford, High Point, Campbell and us all have top-100 RPIs. Winthrop sits just outside of the top 100 right now. There is no doubt that the Big South is a good baseball league.

I believe that both Coastal and Liberty are/will be in good shape to draw an at large bid to NCAA tournament should the other team win the conference tournament. However, should some team not named Coastal or Liberty win the tournament we will be in a precarious situation. The selection committee may not believe that the Big South is ready to be a three bid conference yet (especially if other conferences have upsets in their tournaments). In that case, we would have to contend with Coastal for one at large bid. We know how that usually turns out. To maximize our chances, we need to be in the bracket opposite Coastal in the tournament.

as much as I hate to admit it- there's a team out there named Radford which definitely had our number earlier in the season

we narrowly avoided being swept IIRC (which I do)

we are sitting 3rd (t-2 in conf) and on the outside looking in barring a run in the tourney

Coastal may not lose a conf series all season- they are definitely back in form

I think we are in a 4 horse race for two spots. Radford and Campbell will be in the conversation along with CC and LU come the end of the season. We have a tougher schedule than all but CC. We need to win our week day games to have a chance.

Radford has been a pain for us the last 3 years. Weve beaten them in the tournament but theyve won 3 of the last 4 series against us i believe. In all honesty if we won one more game against them won that uncg game i would absolutely love where we are.

6 Big South schools ranked in the Top 100 is pretty cool to see. It would have bene tough to envision that just a few years ago.

Simple really..they scheduled up and then they win games and they are getting help from other teams, even the ones they lost to. Auburn is 29-16 but they are in the SEC, which is the top conference in college baseball and have wins over Alabama, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt among others, which boosts their SoS, and as a result, their RPI, which by extension, boosts Radford's.
