LU - Possible Host for NCAA

Listened to an interview on the Tim Brando Show today with a college baseball expert (don't recall the name because I've been in a meeting since the interview). He said he believes Liberty may be able to host in the NCAA tournament. With the new stadium and the obvious commitment to baseball, the committee may overlook a lower RPI to encourage other non-traditional power conference schools to invest in baseball in the future. Said that UL-Lafayette had the best chance to host of the non-traditional powers.

If you missed it, I wrote a lengthy blog post on the matter last week:

Kendall Rogers quote in his weekly chat today. Take a guess who asked this question...

Knucklehead,
I hate to emphasize midweek games too much, but Tuesday's game against UVA is very, very big. The Flames have a weak SOS and don't have a ton of marquee wins, so beating UVA would help. If the Flames beat UVA and finish strong, I definitely think they host.

With such a significant game I'm suprised no ones started a UVA game thread . Who's pitching ??

With fulghum taking herndon's spot on the weekend rotation and CCU, I reckon Lyons gets the ball against UVa. no need giving Stafford a trial by fire on Wednesday

Kendall! I haven't heard his name in a long time. He is a college baseball fanatic.

Sly, he is still one of the major college baseball writers, but writes for Perfect Game now. It's a pay site for most of the material, so not as easy to access.

We should go all out to beat UVA since they are ranked #1. A win over UVA would be beyond big. If the #22 team could beat #1, that would be a big boost in RPI and all other rankings.
If NCAA picked LU as host, that would send a message to the big boys to upgrade their facilities. LU has a better stadium than many ACC schools, and probably SEC also.

We have a great facility, but it does not surpass SEC baseball facilities.

While I am more muted in my feelings compared to ballcoach, it would be good to get a win over the Cavs. our facilities are nice but do not surpass the SEC...MAYBE comparable but definitely not surpass

Going all out vs UVA is completely short sited. If we did that and dropped a game this weekend, our RPI would take a huge hit regardless of the UVA win. We can afford to lose to UVA. We can't afford to drop a game, much less a series, in conference.

Coastal, while down this year, would still garner us some cachet (sp?) In the RPI i would reckon. That series, if we were to drop a game in our last two series, would be where I would rather it happen.

You're wrong. Coastal is near 200 in the RPI. Radford is near 100. Elon is worse than 100. The only loss that wouldn't hurt would be UVa.

Lyons or Clowers tomorrow. Weekend rotation remains intact.

Thanks for that Lang...guess they really took a hit this year down in Conway on the diamond. Will have to check out what they are saying on their board

Tons of injuries, especially the pitching staff. Ryan Young wrote a good story on it midseason.
