Hope UVa drank plenty of fluids, might get cramps if we let them walk around the bases this much;)

Seems like our pitchers can't find the strikezone today. Walk the first three batters, switch pitchers and give up a run on a wild pitch, then a 2-run triple, then another run on a wild pitch and then walk the next batter... 4 - 1 Bottom 1st

Willi martin was atrocious, exactly the old willi. You cant have that from your starter. Then lacik misplays a routine fly ball to end the inning into 2 runs then gets picked off first. Awful performance today

Dug a hole in the first that we could not get out of, hopefully we can return the favor when they come to Lynchburg.

With the 11 walks, was our pitchers that wild, or did the Umpire have a small strile zone ?

We couldn't locate at all. We tried to establish the slider before establishing the fastball.

If there was a small strike zone, The UVA pitchers were able to find it (2 BB).

I think it was less that the home plate umpire had a small strike zone and probably more that we were swinging more to get back in the game after getting down early. Of the 7 strikeouts UVa pitchers recorded yesterday, only one came with the bat on the shoulder.

Not true. Willi wasnt even close on most of his pitches. Mckelveys walks werent much better. Now later in the game he squeezed the zone. We also got screwed on a tagup call that cost us a run that was initially called safe. One thing that has to change is our hitters approach. We have no patience and when you get down you have to work counts and oest for uva was wild yesterday and we didnt take advantage of it. Aanderaud and lacik are the only two guys that work the count. Britt is hitting 220 and hes swinging on 3 and 1 down 3 runs.

After UVA scored 4 in first inning, the complexion of game changed. as for the starter walking bases full on 14 pitches. It's hard to believe he was that wild. Some umpires have a small strike zone. I get the feeling that's what happened in the first inning.

i was there behind home plate, he was pretty close to that wild. Your not going to get pithces unless you show you can command the ball. Later in the game we were squeezed a bit but we hadn't shown we could command the ball.

He was that wild. We tried to establish the breaking ball before establishing the fastball. When he couldn't locate it, we kept with it instead of going to the straight stuff.

Sounds like a coaching issue right, SJ?

i mean super has a point sometimes. Quinn has always had a tendency to fall in love with the breaking ball. I disagree with Willi though, he just couldn't throw anything for a strike. He threw like 15 pitches and 12 were fastballs probably. It was really ugly, the first two innings were a struggle.

Unless the scouting report indicates batter swings at first pitch most of the time, the first pitch to any batter should always be a fastball, to get ahead in the count.

Except when you pitch to Alex Close
