Why are you guys playing them as a non-conference game? I wouldn't think you guys would have trouble finding an OOC opponent. Did someone cancel last minute?

That is a question many of us asked ourselves when we saw the schedule. I'm not sure of the answer.

Wish they would add the Clemson Tigers to their schedule.

Well why not email the AD about it?

Cause the AD has much more important things to worry about.

my point...itd be nice to play Clemson but its not the end of the world either. I mean we get some pretty good games this year

BJ probably send JB an email every day. Kinda like he sends out PM's.

We did it last year as well.

Game postponed due to inclement weather.

Instead of playing Radford, it would have been better to have scheduled a game against a Top 25 team. That would help our RPI come May.

ballcoach...do you really think that if this game was against a top 25 team that they would have still played the game in freezing rain/snow showers?

BJ, what I was saying was the game should not have been scheduled. Playing a OOC game against Radford in February is basically a waste of time, win or lose. If we wanted a mid week game, we should have scheduled one with a Top 25 team.
As for the weather, no game should be played in freezing rain/snow, or even cold weather (below 40-45). Playing in such conditions is not good for pitcher's arms.

They are PH (congrats on the district championship btw). I dont think anyone is saying this was a good game to schedule(that is for ballcoach), but Im guessing that both teams had a midweek opening and when they saw they had the opening they made the game happen so they didnt have to sacrifice a game .

Wow. If ballcoach was AD, we could just wave a magic wand and play whomever we want! I sure hope JB leaves so he can take over! 8)

Should have found an ACC school, Southern Conference, CAA, A-10 ,not another BSC school.

This cancellation gives us the opportunity to add a game later in the year with a top flight team that also has one cancelled. We did this last year with Georgia. Interestingly Coastal added one at north Carolina on Monday and got beat 7-1.

What if none of them had that date available on their schedules ballcoach? As jbock said, maybe you ought to be AD because then we could just schedule whoever the heck we want, regardless of if they have an opening or not on the day in question

Anytime a game is scheduled for February there is a fair chance that it will be rained or snowed out. Have to be flexible in scheduling. There is nothing in NCAA rule book that says LU must play a game on February 19th. But if I were AD, I could have found a better opponent than another BSC school, maybe not on Feb 19, but another date.

But this rainout may prove to be a blessing like a poster above said. Maybe we can grab a quick game with a ranked team later in season.

Couple things here

1. Toman and the staff set the schedule. The ad doesn't do the scheduling and have never heard of him vetoing or really even suggesting anything
2. Baseball is a completely different animal than other sports in regards to missing classes and travel. The guys are gone so many weekends, so during the week limiting travel (without sacrificing scheduling does come into play). Lately Radford has been a top 100 rip team, and with them being so close it was actually very valuable and convenient to add them an extra game.

When you are a rising mid major it's not always easy to bring UVA's and VA Tech's into your place to play. It is starting to happen bc of 2 reasons. The new stadium and the rpi formula changed and gives bonus points for wins on the road, so even big names will travel more.

I hope this explains some of the reasons and thought process
