Flames Problem

Since it's baseball season I put this topic here: and after the sweep by CCU it's time for this to be said:

Liberty Big 3 sports specifically: football, men's hoops, baseball

All 3 have NO freaking swagger, yes they are good enough to win some games and have enough $$ And nice buildings to attract solid players, but when time comes to win the Big one, it's choke city!!! WTH -- someone needs to go into each locker room and throw the BIBLES out and start chewing someone's rear end...

No swagger, no mental toughness, how can football choke, how can hoops not get a 6'5 athletic wing to go along with Sanders, how can baseball not beat some chickens???

People on the outside think Liberty is puny little Big South school, no one knows they have 1st class facilities unless you have been there...no wonder a 1-A conference has not given them a invite, that can't win anything to gain respect. It's awful. They should be achieving more!

Makes no freaking sense to me... 2nd and 3rd place finishes year end year out in the BSC is embarrassing with the potential that sits on the mountain!

I'm not pointing fingers at a coach or AD... I'm saying its a total culture thing.

you can have a swagger/confidence with out being a thug... so what if other schools don't like you, thats part of sports. kick their butt and move on.

If you want to be a champion you have to go take it.

Please stay in the basketball thread. Thanks.

I mean, at least baseball can win 50 percent of its games. Just saying.

That's the point pal... All LU programs win over 50% of their games, it's the big One that I'm talking about.

I have had at least 8 private messages regarding this topic but no one brave enough to agree publicly. Typical Flame Fans.

I highly doubt that. Although does TorC have 8 different profiles? It's quite possible, we know he has at least 2

We don't need swagger. We need student athletes who have a passion for the Lord and a passion for the sport they are playing. I'll take character and talent over swagger and talent. I grew up with the mindset you let your play do the talking and not swagger or "black unis" (sic football) :D

I actually agree with BS King to a big extent. We don't have a lot of swagger, and I don't have any problem with that at all, I don't much care for swagger, especially the NBA kind.
Having been a LU fan since 1972 and a football and baseball player, I can recall very few "big" games that we have won in the major sports. It can be very frustrating being a Flames fan. (Not nearly as bad as being a Cubs fan). But I do have eternal optimism that we will get over the hump one day and will win the close games. We have knocked on a lot of doors, just haven't knocked our share down yet.
Let me challenge everyone here to join the Flames Club and donate as much as you can. We are light years ahead of where we began. (We didn't even have a door to knock on). In addition to talking about our teams and supporting them with our attendance, help them financially.

There's a difference between swagger and confidence I would think

It is true that we cannot win the "Big One". year in and year out we seem to lose a make or break game that we should win. Maybe we we ever get over that hump, we'll reach our potential

Maybe if we had more players from the Dogwood....

Maybe true, maybe not. I have always thought LU lets some good local players get away, in more sport than one.

Track&Field, Women's B-Ball, and the Golf team have the swag! Other Big South teams KNOW that they can't beat them!

If you're really arguing that we compromise our beliefs, then that tells me all I need to know.

Some of you just don't get it and probably never will and then there are a some of you that do get it.

No one said anything about compromising beliefs... you win and win big with character, but if the character doesn't believe fully in themselves you have no chance.

W-Hoops, T&F, and Golf have both!

You don't win because you have "swagger". You gain confidence when you have success, and that tends to lead to more success. To say our WBB team has "swagger" is laughable. They have had incredible success with absolutely zero killer instinct. They frequently play down to the level of inferior opponents and do just enough to win (usually). However, they consistantly have more size and talent than anyone else in our conference and so much winning history that when it comes down to the wire they expect to win and they almost always do. When some of our other programs which have come up short more often than not start to get superior athletes the way WBB and T&F have, they will start to develop the same kind of confidence.

"By the time we were in the Final Four, I felt like I had a ton of confidence," Jeff Withey said. "I felt like I played with a different swagger."

The above quote was from Kansas big man Jeff Withey, who happens to be a Christian by the way.

I'll leave it to someone else to blow your point to kingdom come on that...and note that success and swagger are two different things as olldflame noted

So basically this last sentence of yours tells me a lot...back to my originial post, it's recruiting that's the problem. So obviously the Big 3 need new recruiters?? Gotcha, so I will leave the Confidence/swagger comments alone and wait til we get new recruiters before holding out hope we will win Big! You said it not me and some of you agree with him.
