Flames add a game with the Bulldogs in Athens on the 16th @ 3PM. Good game to pick-up; Georgia is 58th in RPI.

I would love to check out the game atmosphere in Athens but I'll be closer to the Republic of Georgia than the State of Georgia.

surprise, same story different day. Why the heck do we bunt so much with RISP. You'd think we have a team that hits about .210

Tough loss but when you leave seven on base that will happen. We easily could have on this game but let it slip away. Lets get the heels Wednesday.

Bunting with RISP is stupid unless you're playing for a single run. Doesn't make sense.

I agree, thats why I'm so irritated. We bunt way too much. I like Parm bunting for a hit and i like bunting 2 runners over to 2nd and 3rd if a weak hitter is up. With Toman, it doesn't seem like it matters who's at the plate, he gives up too many free outs with RISP. This is about the 4th game it's cost us big time this year so far.

I'm not a huge Toman fan but goodness... all the constant complaining is getting a bit much. Even I don't gripe about Coach Green every game!

I was listening to the game while I was cutting the grass and I was perplexed why we were bunting with runners on 2nd and 3rd base with only 1 out. We had more hits than they did up to that point in the game... let the kids swing the bat instead of scoring runs off of gimmicks for crying out loud.

Yeah all this bunting has really hurt our record. We have lost 3 conference games by a total of 3 runs. JB should have hired a better coach, but I am sure his ego got in the way. It's all his fault, our last 3 coaches were head and shoulders above this guy.
I don't care if we bunt every time at bat as long as we have a good winning record like we do now; especially this time of year when we are not throwing our top shelf arms during the middle of the week games. (I would like to see us throw Niggli? tomorrow, he could still pitch Sunday's game). But I am not the coach, I suspect he knows better than I do. After all, they are paying him good money to coach the team, and he doesn't even call me anymore to ask for advice.

Agreed with flameshaw. If it works, Toman's a genius. It didn't so he is an idiot and a terrible coach and should be fired before they even take the field today for using too many "gimmicks". Yeah, Id of loved to get the win too, but Id rather lose to an SEC team by two runs than 22.

Statistically, sacrifice bunting - more often than not - is a bad decision. You are sacrificing an important out for the chance to score a run. If you think that the 1 run is going to make a difference in a win or loss then it's not a terrible choice. It's just not good baseball if you have a chance to score multiple runs as is the case in a 2nd and 3rd situation.

I know it's tough to read criticism of highly esteemed individuals on campus, but your comment is a bit ridiculous. No one said he was an idiot and certainly no one said he should be fired... Get serious. If you have something useful to add to the conversation, feel free - but don't go and misconstrue others thoughts to try and make them appear as though they are unreasonable for questioning a decision. That having been said - it appears as though Toman is excellent in recruiting talent to this school. So while I might question that one decision, ultimately we are better off for having him here as he brings the talent that ultimately wins games.
By the way, I know they are just polls, but we were technically ranked ahead of Georgia - so while we were just an FCS squad competing against an SEC team, I think it's worth noting we should have won the game.

That comment was said tongue in cheek (which as I noted in another post I know is hard to read on a message board)

haha, that's false
Baseball team continues to be good, but can't get over the hump of simply being good. Its frustrating to say the least.

Gotcha - I just don't want to be labeled as someone that never has anything positive to say... I can't stand people like that.
By the way - I've met Barber on here. Why do people feel the need to hate on him?

Can't speak for everyone, but the most vocal of the people who criticize JB, are mad because he made a hiring decision that resulted in their man crush no longer welcome on the mountain. IMVVVVVHO, he made the correct choice each time, but some people disagree even though the results say otherwise. But hey everyone has the right to be wrong, no reason to hate.

No. There is about four posters who hate jb toman layer and anyone else. I like toman i just disagree with his theory on bunting and the way the pitching staff is handled. In fairness its improved this year but we have given away about 7 games this year. We havent played a team yet that looked better than us imho. Yet we have 10 losses, certainly you cant win them all but you cant beat yourself and you should learn from mistakes in managing games. Those are the only things i disagree with toman about. I really think we take the bat out of good hitters hands too often and its clearly on our scouting report because teams have adjusted and are prepared for us

I think he's actually done a good job with the pitching staff this year, but the bunting thing has got to go. It's a tactic that improves your chance of scoring 1 run in an inning but decreases your chance of scoring multiple runs. If you're bunting for 1 run, late in the game, then go for it. Otherwise it's just a terrible tactical decision.
