Game #5: Radford

The Liberty Flames kick of their last season at Worthington Stadium by hosting in state rival Radford in a rare non-conference meeting. The Highlanders come in with a 1-2 record after losing 2 of 3 to Samford. Liberty comes of winning all four of its games at the Citadel Challenge in Charleston South Carolina 43-12. Kody Young takes the bump for Liberty while Radford sends lefthander Jeff Maxwell. Nick Pierce will have the call of today's game at 4 PM on www.libertyflames.com (I believe it will be on 90.9 FM as well). Also, Jim Toman will be going for his 150th win at Liberty in today's matchup.

Not on 90.9 just btw for those out there. I know that's not your fault though.

Since they don't play any good music anymore, they'd might as well begin streaming all the baseball games.

Flames pieced together the win today. Dudley got the save and got out of a big jam in the 7th, had a clean 8th, then got out of a 2 on 1 out jam to get the save. Blake pitched a scoreless inning, still looks like he's letting the umps calls affect him a little, not as much as last year though. Lyon looked sharp, he reminds me a bit of Baker last year. His arm angle is somewhat different but he almost throws the ol eephus pitch that registers like 62 mph. Wasn't impressed with Bankemper, 2nd bad outing this year. Kody Young looked OK in the first couple innings, he could be the weekday starter once he builds up some arm strength.

Haley's skills were actually kind of hidden at 2b last year. He has a gun as he absolutely hosed a raddy player going to 3rd on a huge relay play from andy smith. Andy Smith popped a line drive homer that the wind pushed out, but it would have been a line shot double. He also made an amazing grab for Dudley with 2 on in the 9th and then slammed into the fence. Our defense is the best overall i have seen in years. Cordell looks a little shaky at first but other than that we are rock solid.

Nice win today without getting much offense out of parm, mrob, cox or anderaud.

Also saw lang said grauer is out 3 weeks with a broken finger. We will need his stick back in there later. Not sure Cordell is going to hit enough or play enough D at 1b to stay in the lineup regulary.
