This is a special weekend for all of us here at Flamefans.com as Saturday our friend Jeff "Fumblerooskies" Taylor is honored with the 2nd annual Jeff Taylor Memorial Scholarship Day at Worthington Stadium. For those who do not know "Fumble" as we all called him went home to Jesus on April 29, 2009 following a tragic accident throwing battinng practice with his son and some of his Lynchburg College teammates. Jeff was an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences and Kinesiology at LU, and his son Jeff Taylor Jr. played baseball at Lynchburg College and to my knowledge is in the Cincinnati Reds Organization. I encourage everyone to come out and support this fund as a way to honor Fumble. I miss him and his posts that is for sure.
In regards to the series, LU is on a four game winning streak after winning the Liberty Tournament and UNCA is coming off being swept by Radford on easter weekend and has been off since then for exams. This is another series that LU should win, but we really need the bats to get hot. On an injury note, Jeff Jefferson injured his knee during the South Carolina game and i was told he is out for four weeks, which could likely signal the end of his career with the Flames. If anyone has further information, please feel free to psot. GO FLAMES!!

it doesn't look good. Tyler caught game 1 of the double header Sunday haha, thats how bad our depth is at that position right now. Hopefully Rasmus doesn't get banged up. Didn't we skip Niggli last weekend in the rotation. Got Beakler and Forslund a start against a punchless New Orleans lineup.

Niggli and Baker did not pitch last weekend, so im assuming they go back to the regular rotation of Niggli, Evans, Linza, and Baker to be ready in a pinch out of the pen. Tyler did ok behind the plate considering.

Sure thing, Smoothy! Jeff's wearing his Quiz Bowl shirt at W&M--a shirt that we retired and gave to his Mom.

LU steals one in the 9th as Parmley leads off with a base hit, advances to third on a failed pickoff, and scores on an RBI double by Mike Robertson and Matt Williams launches a game ending 2 run home run to left to give the Flames the win 3-2

Matt Williams has just hit a game winning homerun for LU to take the opener 3-2. Down 2-0 in the ninth and only 3 hits til that point we get our bats going to get the win.

just got home from the game and wow what a finish!! matt williams is so clutch. Niggli pitched pretty well tonight and baker was fantastic in relief, but UNCA's starter was better, but the two base error in in 9th did not help. Im still concerned with the bats, but when you win one like that its easy to forget. GO FLAMES!

start calling the man matty ice. Hope Haley didn't break a collarbone or something on that last dive in the 8th. That was a big play to end that inning. Great game and awesome job to keep battling even though we were stymied for 3 hits thru 8 innings

Steven Evans spins a complete game 4 hit gem as LU wins game one of the doubleheader 3-0. Real good crowd on hand for the first game and for the scholarship presentation.

Liberty has blown the barn door wide open and scored 8 runs in the 5th and leads 12-1 in game two of the doubleheader.

Fumble would have loved seeing a sweep of UNCA.
I remember hanging out with him for Toman's first LU home game, and Fumble was wearing a red bow tie wrapped around an red LC hoodie to honor our new coach (and support his son's team). He was later buried wearing an LC ball cap.
RIP, Jeff. We miss you, buddy.

great day for baseball today. evans and linza were terrific and the bats finally woke up for game two. we have quietly won seven straight and i really love what our pitching staff is doing right now.

Can't argue with a conference sweep. Hopefully our bats can start producing 4-5 runs a game to keep the pressure off of our pitchers. What they're doing right now is incredible but it'd be very nice to get them a little wiggle room.

The video board in left is awesome to see in person...about the only thing Id of wanted information wise was to see a basic stat line for the guy at the plate. Cant wait to see it with all the other little things added on come next season.
Now we need to take the series from G-W and lock up #2 then finish strong next week after graduation
