great.......

Can we just stop playing Virginia teams? I'm so sick of us getting embarrassed in everything. ESPECIALLY against JMU.

I just left because I have a meeting to attend. Hopefully, we'll come back and make this a game.

The Flames lead 11-8 heading to the 7th ... LU left the bases juiced to end the 6th.

Thanks, BJ! We should be wrapped up in a few minutes, so I might see the last inning. This would be a good one to hold on to.

We're still up 12-10 in the Top of the 9th but gripping a bit. JMU has runners on 1st & 2nd with 1 away.

Ok I brought my computer with me so I could keep up with the game (JV is running late) and Im gonna set the stage for you:

JMU has two men aboard (single, HBP) and they bring in a pinch hitter. He hits a fly ball to right. the trail runner on the paths, thinking the ball is going to be caught, goes to tag. The batter (the pinch hitter) PASSES the trail runner, then realizing his error, retreats to behind him. The ball clears the fence and is ruled a three run homer. Now I looked it up but according to the rules, the batter should be declared out for passing a runner on the basepaths (which Coach Toman saw, Nick AND Doug saw also). So Coach Toman charges out and gives the third base and home plate umpires the business about it (if you listen to the webcast you can clearly hear Coach Toman say "HE PASSED HIM!"), the umpires get together and they let the home run stand.

Yeah, I knew I wouldn't have to eat my words.

I'm sorry, this is pathetic.

Did we give up 3 HRs in the 9th inning?

Do I think we should have won that game...absolutely! But if you were actually AT the game jbock you would have seen the play I described to you (and which Nick and Doug were not happy about if you listened to their commentary...especially since it was the SECOND TIME that had happened in the game and the rule was not enforced). If the rule is enforced, the pinch hitter is called out, and there are two outs and the whole complexion of the inning changes. I'm not saying that our boys aren't without fault here but you have to consider that we got screwed on that one.

Del, we did...after the no call on the three run homer, Josh Richardson gave up a pair of home runs

Sorry BJ i wasn't at the game but I can say this and I will back it up. There is ZERO excuse for losing this game in the 9th. you just cannot blow a lead like that and ride it off as oh well we didn't get the call we wanted. Absolutely terrible. maybe we can hire the GSU baseball coach. he seems to know what the heck he's doing down here in atlanta. with lesser facilities than LU(yes i know hard to believe) in a tougher overall conference. alright i'm off the soapbox now.

FFG, I agree we shouldnt blow a ninth inning lead...no one should...we shouldnt have even gotten into a situation where a call or no call is even affecting a game outcome like that. I think that there is going to be a long hard look at where we were and where we are in the coming month plus...and pardon my saying in light of some of the things Ive said recently...but maybe a change is needed again.
