Flame thrower: Tulare Union graduate John Niggli lands baseball scholarship to Liberty University

In the spring of 2008, John Niggli was ready to ditch baseball and focus on becoming a sprint race-car driver.

A friend's mom urged Niggli not to give up on baseball so fast. She asked him to stick with it for his senior year at Tulare Union.

Two years later, Niggli is thrilled that he was prodded to stick with the sport — baseball is going to help pay for his college education.

Niggli landed a scholarship to play for the Liberty Flames, an NCAA Division I program in the Big South Conference. Liberty University is located in Lynchburg, Va.
