The Flames hit the road to face the buccaneers with game times set for friday at 2pm, saturday at 3pm, and sunday at 2pm. saturday's and sunday's games are available on the big south network, and live stats are available at libertyflames.com or csusports.com. the usual weekend starters teufel and evans will throw and im guessing sunday will be umberger/beakler, but who knows. hoping for a winning weekend of baseball as the flames have won twelve straight big south games and have a five game winning streak overall. GO FLAMES!

The Bucs have lost 7 of their last 9 and are battling for the 8th & final Big South Tourney slot.

LU up 6-2 in the seventh...homers for Nate Thompson and Matt Williams, Evans goes 5.2, struck out 9 and gave up both runs.

I think Toman wants Teufel to match up with Thornburg whenever he's throwing, which is why I assume Evans went today.

I was at Worthington last spring when that kid pitched for the Bucs. He was filthy that evening.

Good to see Josh back from the injury.
On a side note, Coastal is beating Winthrop 20-1. They're scary good.

What was wrong with Richardson?
I think Toman's move paid off today. I like the idea of matching up Teufel with their ace as well. I do think it's a mistake to save him in the tourney. I think you pitch him in the 1st or 2nd game and get the guaranteed win and save the bullpen for the next two games, then bring him back for the championship game saturday on 3 days rest. I think you get in trouble assuming things like that we will be definetely be around the 3rd game. We look really good, but we did lose to RU in a tourney game a coupl eyears ago on the first day

Teufel is throwing the ball really well. It'll be interesting to see if we throw him next Friday against Meo or if we throw him on Saturday against Woodward.
I've heard talk of the conference tournament pitching situation. I see the advantages and disadvantages of both lines of thinking.
As for Richardson, he had pulled a muscle in his ribs or something like that. It looks like our pitching staff is completely healthy right now which is very good. We'll have all hands on deck next weekend.

At the very least Saturday but I'm hearing talks of Sunday as well for various reasons.
However I'm told having to turn in the line up before the weekend cuts down on the ability to play the chess game so there really isnt a point.

Flames win 13-4 ... 15 straight Big South wins. Coastal is up 9-3 on Winthrop. If the Chants win tomorrow, that'll be 20 straight Big South wins. What a series on tap next weekend.

no doubt lang, huge series. i was looking at the big south site and it says coastal has waon 28 straight big south games. that has to be a typo right?? in any regard, chach pitched five strong innings and carter browning pitched the rest of the way. i really like how the bullpen has played as of late, and it should help against a great coastal team. of course i would love to see the flames win the series, but i would be happy with one win. the guys continue to do what is needed to warrant a regional spot so far.

It's probably 28 going back to last regular season. I suspect this series will draw some national interest from the various sites that cover college baseball.

LU has scored 10 or more runs 19 times this season...Coastal has scored 10 or more runs 18 times...of those...five times they have scored 20 or more runs...four of them in conference

Great to see Carter throw well the past two weeks. Our pitching seems to be coming around and getting healthy at the right time. If we can have Keegan get back on track, even if it's just as a reliever, we'll be in pretty good shape.

I have a question about a possible scenario for the first seed in the BSC tourney. CCU had a game cancelled against CSU back in March. My understanding is that to encourage teams to get in as many games as possible, seedings are by the number of total wins, not the best won/loss record. Assuming both of us win out in our other conference games, if we were to win 2 of 3 against the Beach Chickens, we would tie them in wins. They would have one fewer loss, but we would have a 2-1 edge head to head. I believe we would get the #1 seed. Am I right?

No. You are not right based on the total number of wins. That rule was changed this year because it was absolutely stupid.

Also, unless we lose out and Radford wins out, we've assured ourselves 2nd place in the league. I know we're playing for a regional so that doesn't sound like as nice as it would in other years, but it's still nice to know.

Didn't know they had changed the rule on seedings. I don't necessarily agree that it was stupid. If 2 teams finish with the same number of wins, does a team that had a cancellation now win outright because they have one less loss? It would seem to me they should have to make that game up.
