I felt like it was time that we gave him some recognition on here. I have been reading the board for several years now and this is the best pitching season I have seen anyone at LU have since 2003 when I began keeping up with Lu. He takes the ball and goes the distance or goes deep in every single game, saving the bullpen. He works fast which keeps his fielders sharp and into the game. He throws strikes which makes the games fun to watch and he strikes out a lotta guys. Just look at the stat line below, 1 unearned run the entire year when he's pitching, that tells you he keeps his fielders in the game. Any of you have that have played at high school or above know how important that is. He should be 10-0 if the offense would've done anything in the UNCA game that was lost 2-1. He has been the only guy on the staff that has been consistent from game 1 thru today.

A scary thought, that he almost never threw a pitch for LU. That we almost wasted him as a backup first basemen for his entire career or he wouldn't even been on the team depending on who tells it in the stands. My understanding is after his Redshirt Sophomore year Toman basically didn't have a place for him. I mean he was a backup first basemen that couldn't hit and that he basically had to win his spot back by pitching in the summer and then coming back and the fall and showing what happened. I remember thinking what is going on when I looked at the box score last year and he was pitching. Well he won 10 games last year and had a 3 ERA and became our ace. Just check the stat line below. This guy has been the MVP hands down for this team in my book. I just think everyone should take a step back and really appreciate what the year this guy is having.

Its not going unnoticed. I was just speaking with someone in the O's organization and their pitching coach and farm director were asking questions about Teuf. They were already aware of his stat line and impressed.

I'm sure the Muts would take a look at him since he's part of that family.

Sounds like Shawn is doing OK.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP)—Well, no need for a scouting report here.

Tim Teufel’s son made his Triple-A debut Thursday night and dad was there all right. The former major leaguer was in the other dugout, managing the Buffalo Bisons.

Shawn Teufel struck out seven in six sharp innings to lead the Toledo Mud Hens to a 4-0 victory. The 25-year-old left-hander allowed three hits and walked three for the Detroit Tigers’ top minor league team.

“Well, that was unique,” Tim Teufel said with a crooked smile. “I was nervous as a dad. He did a remarkable job. He was probably a lot more calm than I was.”

The elder Teufel played for Minnesota, the New York Mets and San Diego over 11 years in the majors. He is most known for his six seasons with New York, winning the World Series in 1986.

Shawn Teufel, born in July of that title season, was 4-3 with a 3.63 ERA with the Single-A Lakeland before being promoted for a spot start.

“Nerves weren’t a part of it,” Teufel said of his first Triple-A start. “I was told by a lot of people to ‘Keep doing what you’re doing.’ You have to just pitch your game.”

Tim Teufel was drafted by the Twins and played for Toledo during his own minor league career.

“Him in the Mud Hen uniform, it’s funny,” he said. “I played for the Toledo Mud Hens so it’s a unique time. It’s almost like somebody upstairs put this all together.”
