Game #36 vs. Duke

After the huge VMI sweep this weekend lets hope there isn't a midweek let down with an ACC team coming to town. The game starts at 6 assuming nothing changes due to weather.
SJ got any info on who is starting?

I would guess Giannini or Chach but I'm really not sure. Cam threw a little bit on Sunday so I would think they push him to tomorrow. I doubt they throw Dudley against an ACC school even though he threw really well on Saturday. Chach has been struggling lately too.
My best guess would be Chach for five, Beakler for one or two, and then McLeod or Richardson for one. Only problem with that is Beakler threw like 90 pitches on Saturday. Then again we could see Dudley for an inning. It'll be Jonny Wholestaff. It all depends on how Chach throws.

Dudley looked good in the lose to Elon too although I guess he got pulled after I left. Have they even given him a start this year? Or has he been just coming on in relief?

He started the home game vs ODU. He did alright. He's been getting better as the year went on though.

Wouldnt you want to throw him now? I wouldnt start a question mark against a BSC opponent. It's not like we're fighting for an at large any more, seems like BSC Tourny is our only hope so seeding is huge so we dont have to face CCU

According to SEBaseball, we're one of nine teams on the bubble fighting for six spots.
Who are you talking about when you say "him" and "question mark" because that could be both Dudley and Linza so I wanna make sure I'm following.

Wow, didnt know we were still being considered or discussed as to be considered. I was saying Dud....he's young and he's had great outings and some rough ones, but he's young and that's why. If we've still got a shot then maybe we should set out to win and not just hope to play well and steal one. Because I'm not sure CCU will be dropping any now or in the tourny.

We've got any outside chance. We're currently 25-10. We need to get to 40 wins before the conference tournament. We have 21 games left. That means we can only lose six of those.
If we go ahead and mark up two to Coastal then that means we can lose four others.
Our non-conference is vs Duke, vs JMU, at Elon, at George Mason, vs Maryland, and vs VCU. We need to go at worst 4-2 in those games.
Our other conference games are at PC, vs G-W, at CSU, and at WU. We have to go 8-1 against PC, G-W, and CSU and then win at least two off of Winthrop.
Then, on top of all of that, we have to win at least three games in the tournament and get to the championship. This would put us at 43-19.
If we can do all of that then we have an outside shot at a regional. Yes, that's a lot to do, but if we stay healthy, I don't see that as undoable. The key is staying healthy and our arms not getting tired.

Liberty has used up its allotment of bad Big South losses. IMHO, the Flames will have to sweep Presby, CSU and GWebb. Losing two at UNCA is a giant blemish that must be made up for.

I wouldn't disagree with that. The reason I gave the one loss at CSU was because of their one pitcher.

Toman was quoted as saying that he felt although there was a lot of work left to do, that the sweep of VMI put us back in the running for a potential at large.

If you use RPI the only games we should be true underdogs in are against Coastal... but we all know the underdog wins often enough...
But when was the last time we didn't have to hope for the upset?

What the heck was that baulk call in the 8th?

The bats go silent in a 4-1 loss. i dont care what our RPI is, it will take a miracle to get an at-large or whatever they call it. i agree with Lang that need to sweep presby, CSU and GWU. The midweek losses have been killer. lets get JMU tomm! btw, another great crowd tonight at worthington even though the official attendance was 487. it looked like their were more there.

Batter interference on McCurdy, getting in the way of Thompson trying to throw Currier out at second. Batter is automatically out and the runner must return to first.

But didn't the runner stay on 2nd?

He came back to first then stole second on the next pitch.
Are you thinking of the one where it looked like Thompson stole second and it ended up just being a wild pitch?

You're talking about for us, right?
There was a ball that was low and inside. The runner at first read it and went to stole second. We claimed that it hit our batter and that he should get first. They said it was a ball in the dirt. Credit the runner for moving up on the wild pitch and the hitter comes back to the plate.

This was the play I was thinking of it just seemed that the umps handled the situation poorly. I sure thought they had issued the walk until the Duke coach came out and talked to the umps (that's why Duke didn't even try to make a play when he walked to 2nd. I was just surprised they let the runner keep 2nd.

Yeah I was thinking of the wild pitch but I remember this play too. Couple of odd plays last night

I'm getting flashbacks. Yes there were quite a bit more there than 487.

Yeah unless they stopped taking attendance at 5:45 I'm not sure how they ended with 487. It was definitely comparable to this weekend’s crowd.

There was several hundred on the grass alone. I've been told (which I find it hard to believe) that the stands seat 1,000. Finding a seat in the stands for 2 people was not east last night.
There were not 4x-5x more people Friday than last night.
