VMI beat #1-4 UVA depending on what poll 12-3 wednesday night so the Keydets are for real. LU hangs on and takes the win 12-9. Shawn Teufel runs his record to 7-1 on the year with the win. JOsh Richardson comes on in the eighth and gets the four out save (his fourth on the season)

Congrats to LU for tonite's win........I no way thought we'd just walk in here and take three the way we did vs. Gard-webb and UNCA.
Walks and a couple of misplays on defense hurt VMI, but good teams like LU take advantage (two walks in the 4th, then a lost fly ball that fell for a two-run double, for example, along with that killer two-run triple in the 7th where I thought the VMI left fielder had a play). Plus VMI reliever Garrett left in too long in the 8th, when LU put the game away.
97% of the time, we win with 9 runs.......

....although before tonite we lost twice when scoring 13 runs (JMU, HPU)
More fun & competition tomorrow.

2,431 was the attendance tonight. Impressive! I am sure some of that was due to fact that VMI was ranked and beat UVA earlier. That big 7th inning carried us to a nice win. I am expecting 2 more tough games with against these guys.

Nice weather, good opponent, in-state rival, and a traveling fan base all contributed. Hopefully we can get over the 2000 mark again tomorrow.

nice win tonight. great crowd, perfect night for baseball. Storm got in the umps face once...good stuff. VMI's errors really hurt them, but they can mash for sure. two good ball teams out there tonight and the next two games should not disappoint!

Rough start today. Keydets chased Linza in the first and are up 6-0 in the middle of the second.

Liberty had a seven run sixth inning and leads 9-6 right now.

This is the second straight where LU has exploded for a big inning late. It started with a fielding error by the third baseman and the floodgates quickly opened after that

Terrific comeback win 9-6 behind stellar relief pitching by Beakler, Dudley and J. Richardson. If we can finish the sweep tomorrow we will have a solid hold on second place behind Coastal.

The attendence was 2,878 today. Has to be the record or close to it. Impressed with the bullpen today as Beakler, Dudley, and Richardson pitched well. Another quality win coming from behind like that.

Why Steve...youve been rather positive the last few games...think youre finally taking some of the edge off now that the boys are doing better?

Congrats on playing all nine innings again today.........I don't know what VMI's mindset was after the 2nd inning, but I hope they wake up tomorrow, and FINALLY realize Liberty has a very fine ballclub.
Never seen Devine lit up the way y'all did him in the 6th.
Too many LOB's for VMI again. That was a major issue with them in 2009, kept them from perhaps finishing as high as fifth, maybe.

another nice comeback for the boys today! i really thought that it was not the flames day after the rough start, but dane pitched great! i am concerned about linza though. he is gonna need to rest his arm for a bit because his velocity has really tailed off. another great crowd today, and hopefully LU can get the sweep tommorrow. VMI is a solid team for sure, so im sure sundays game will be a good one.

Dudley looked better today than he has all year. That's really good to see. That's one more arm we'll have going into the tournament.

Dudley was great. In full control of the game. Hit every spot and they looked silly on about every swing.

I do.
When Linza came out, one of the players from VMI jogged to the dougout. As he entered, he yelled "BEER ME!!!!!" What a tool! He's like WIll Ferrell on the SNL skit breaking out the cans at 10AM at a little league game. Shut up and play the game.

Record is actually a little more than 3,000 at the very first night game at the Worth. Was against Coastal in 2008. Great crowds this weekend though, I've been impressed.

Yeh, they did do a little to much talking in the first 3 innings. #32 especially. "Fill it up again!!!!" haha I laughed but still in baseball you can never get to high and never get to low.

Still 9 more outs to get, but I think we can break out the brooms. After falling behind 2-0 in the first we are now up 10-3 and still batting in the bottom of the 6th. I just looked back at our schedule/results. I hadn't realized that all 3 of our conference losses were by one run.

Nothing better than a 19 year old reliever with an ERA over 11 yelling about beer in the 1st third of a game.
