Games 7-9: vs. Delaware St.

The Flames host the Hornets this weekend at 3, 2, and 1 PM on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Worthington. The Hornets seem to be in a bit of trouble, with a lot of players out due to suspension, including a majority of their starters.

Should be great weather, so be sure to check out the boys in their home opening series.

I think this team is very good, but it's funny how no body on this board is talking about the schedule... For two years when Royer was winning it was because the schedule was SO Weak... This schedule is the worst in our history. We play very few good teams out of conference and when we do - we play the lower tier ACC teams one game.

I guess it's not "to be the best, you need to play the best" anymore. It's more - "We won 45 games this year - woohoo!"

It's never been "to be the best you need to play the best". It's always been "to be the best you need to BEAT the best". St. John's is a borderline top 25 school, and we have a weekend series with them.

And this year's schedule is a little on the soft side, but honestly, there's a few good teams. It's not significantly worse than last years, if you take out the one big money game at UNC. And if we take care of business, then we get to go to a regional and play the best of the best.

And had we over-scheduled, that would have been an issue, too. "Why are we playing Houston Baptist, UNC, Texas, Oregon State, and UC Irvine. Don't we want to win a few games this year? Are we just looking for a paycheck?"

We're a borderline regional team this year. We're playing a bunch of borderline regional schools.

Kennesaw – tabbed pre-season to be a regional contender (can’t help they are underperforming. They had two pitchers get drafted in first round!)
Wilmington – tabbed to be probably at-large regional bid team, picked second in the CAA if I'm not mistaken
St. John’s – currently ranked 30th in country
Manhattan – 35+ win team last year, already went down and took one from #12 Miami in Miami, and almost beat them twice aside from a Miami rally
Elon – strong regional team for last few years and again this year
George Mason – regional team with 40+win season
JMU – supposed to have best team in years, pre-season top 25 votes, supposed to be regional team, picked to win the CAA
Duke – just missed at-large regional bid last year, and getting better each year with influx of support and solid coach from pro-level
Coastal - #8 in country
Winthrop – receiving top 25 votes in 2 polls

We're not playing a ton of names and yeah we're playing a few schools that aren't that great, but just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean they're not any good.

DSU's coach has already asked for a 10-run rule to be in place.

I know he asked for it, I didn't know whether or not it had been granted.

I never got an answer to my question...you can have a ten run rule?

Live state are freezing and driving me nuts, but it's still 8-0 middle of the 5th.

If it's agreed upon by both teams, yes.

And for the record, I found out some stuff about the future baseball schedules today. One of the things we're running into now is that we're good enough that the bigger schools (i.e. some of the ACC guys) don't want to play us, especially since we now are trying to get 1-an-1's with them. There's no point in going out to Arizona or something like that and getting homer umps like a couple years ago under Royer. We're in an awkward state where we're better than we have been in the past but we haven't proven ourselves yet so the good teams don't want to take the chance of having what may be a "bad" loss.

However, we open up our season next year with a series at South Carolina. We also go to ECU for either one or two games.

Flames Sports Network has games 2 and 3 of this series on the radio... 90.9 FM 'The Light' in Lynchburg, or online at www.thelightonline.com.

Saturday's broadcast begins at 1:55, and Sunday's at 12:45 with Nick Pierce and Doug Wallace on the call... The world is not ready for this dynamic duo...

It's 10-0 now. With the 10 run rule in effect, does the team that's losing get to bat again before they call it?
