Flames coach no stranger to Wilmington

For decades, Liberty University coach Jim Toman scouted the East Coast Professional Baseball Showcase held at Brooks Field. He also visited town with teams at N.C. State and South Carolina as an assistant coach for Ray Tanner, one of Seahawks coach Mark Scalf’s coaching friends.

You will get to see Toman as a head coach when the Flames face the Seahawks Feb. 28 in the Hughes Bros. Challenge.

“We wanted to play where it is a little warmer and play a good team like Wilmington,” Toman told me in a telephone interview.
