Thought I'd post this here to get the most viewing. Just wanted to say a "good job" to the coaches at LU for screwing up getting a top prospect to LU. They really dropped the ball on this one. Trevor Johnston (Player of the Year from JF) WAS coming to LU but the coaches gave him the runaround and now he is going to LC. A really good one just got away........how many OTHER times has this happened?

There is a great deal at play behind the scenes in a limited scholarship program like baseball. The runaround you were referring to may have had a great deal to to do with the process.

Hopefully Trevor has a great career at LC. This board certainly has an affinity for that program based on the events a year ago.

Okay, if his best option other than Liberty was LC then the chances are he wasn't going to play much here anyway. We're a top 50 Division I baseball program. LC is the 5th best team in the ODAC. I hope he has a great career at LC but I don't see this as a huge loss. Had he gone to a Division I program then yeah, we lost a good one. I'm not going to lose sleep over losing a kid to LC.

This kid was told he would start at lu and replace a left hander who didn't like to travel. A starting freshman pitcher. The coaches saw him throw a no hitter (1 throwing error away from a perfect game). Now what do you think?

it's a fact of recruiting bro, it goes both ways. If LC was orginally after a kid, then LU came calling, most guys would jump and forget their commitment, then if UVA came calling most kids drop the commitment to LU. Same in recruiting from the coaches standpoint. Sometimes they have to have contingency plans and they have to tell every player what they want to hear to get them there. That's pretty much how we got Matt Williams, Vandy had him and instead a guy that was drafted in the 1st round taht year declined to sign and went to Vandy. Thanks to connections we end up with him because Vandy doesn't want him in the SEC to compete with him. It's just a fact of recruiting that you have to have your bases covered and a list of kids that are plan A B and C.

The point I disagree with is that you assume he's a top flight prospect because of a no hitter and that LU really missed out. My best friend threw several 1 hitters in the Western Valley District for FC when we were in school and he ended up at Virginia Intermont. Now JF, is in the seminole but that's a much weaker division than the WVD not to mention a different level. I hope the kid does well but I think it's a stretch to say that a Lu really lost a huge player, if he was taht great someone else would be in on him too.

Somebody needs to splain college baseball better to me. I'm unsure why we are still no where near being in the polls. 6 votes in the CBI poll and that is it. We are way behind a lot of teams with much fewer wins and more losses. I would take an uneducated guess and say strength of schedule. MD, Mason, and CCU are going to be HUGE for this program for sure.

Prestige, RPI, and our record are the reason we're not. Had we not dropped a few of the games we did (namely two to UNCA and the third HPU game) we'd be pretty close. Add in a win over Duke or Elon and we're even closer.

I think even one win over CCU will give us a boost. 2 would probably lock in an at large.

In the "what could have been" department, all 3 of the conference losses SJ mentioned were by 1 run. Yes, I know that works both ways, but unless I'm wrong only 1 of our wins was by a single run, and we had a lot of blowouts.

I don't know why people think this Maryland game will help Liberty. The Terps are 15-33 and are 4-20 in the ACC. A loss there might be a total disaster, though.

I don't think many are looking at it as it will help. I think we're looking at it as "Crap, we better win that one and it should be convincingly."

Agreed. It's one thing to lose to Duke and Elon, who are at least decent programs. Maryland is terrible, and has been for years.

Maryland is a must win, mason is badly needed. We don't have a ton of defining wins is the reason were not ranked. I mean we have a few CAA wins and the VMI sweep and 2 of 3 from SJU. Had our bullpen held leads against manhattan, SJU and the high point and asheville games we would be sitting really nice right now
