Tough loss for the guys, kind of expected to maybe drop one against GW, many ppl believe they may be the best hitting team in the conference and they validated that today...couple miscues by us, still had a chance to win and couldn't finish......i was talking to a couple friends at the game last weekend and i was telling them i was a little concerned with Wilson, just bc even though he closed with no trouble last weekend very rarely does he go in and go "1,2,3...game over". Usually there's a walk or a hit or HBP or something, fortunately he's been "grittin' up" and makin pitches when he had to and he's had some room for error (last weekend we were up 2 or 3 runs), but today there was no margin for error and it finally bit him in the butt. But the kids got good stuff and he throws it hard so hopefully today won't affect him and gets right back on the horse.......if there's a hangover effect that could really damage our chances bc we need headstrong, quality guys at the backend.....he and carter have been that so far......it's only one tho and they're a good squad...gotta go to work tomorrow and sunday and come out with 2 of 3, we'll be alright.

Game 2, we're batting in the top of the 8th, up 5-1. Browning now on the mound after 6 strong innings from Teufel.

Now 10-1 in the 9th. Tyler is 4-4 with 6 RBI! That gives him 55 RBI for the year. Really impressive for a true freshman, but a way to go to match the LU season record of 83 set in 1981 by...................... guess who?

If both Liberty and Coastal win tomorrow that will put the wins at 16 and 12.

In my opinion, Coastal will take two of three next weekend. That brings the totals to 17 and 14 wins.

Liberty will likely take two of three against Radford. That brings Liberty's win total to 19.

That would leave Coastal having to sweep both VMI and CSU to win the league, or sweeping one and winning two of three against the other to tie and go to more tiebreakers.

The Big South goes by total wins. That's the big thing here. Win percentage doesn't matter, it's total wins.

Coastal has their work cut out for them for sure. If they lose a couple of more games, they not only won't be the top seed, but they may not be a lock for an at large bid either.

If I remember correctly that was the year we went deep into the NAIA playoffs, so Sid played in a lot of games. He also set the season batting average record that year at something over .440 and hit 19 HR, a record that was broken a few years later by Pat Sipe.

Tyler should start getting some mainstream press... especially if he's looking at a freshman all-american season.

It'd be nice of the guys to get the regular season crown... but I'm still terrified of Coastal in the playoffs (as always). A regular season crowd would look awfully nice to the selection committee if we don't win the conference.

I guess you're talking about Tyler, since Doug is a Sophomore. Both of them are having great years. I hadn't thought about it, but Freshman all-america recognition for Tyler isn't out of the question.

A regular season title might help our cause, but I think we have too many non conference losses to get an at large bid.

I know you guys hear all this stuff, so is Jefferson injured I'm guessing since it looks like he hasn't played in a while.

2-0 good guys already today going into the bottom of the 1st. Cody Brown on the bump for the Flames today.....Good bounce back win yesterday, I haven't checked the box, but heard Wilson got right back on the hill and went right back to work to get us out of a tough situation so that's very good news for us......Tyler is a legitimate freshman AA candidate, his conference numbers are insane and his overall numbers may be better than Aaron Grijalva's when he made the freshman AA team about 4 years ago.....Jefferson was injured on friday night of the HPU series, Justin Richardson stepped in and was effective for a few games, then John Long got the bat going, and now Tim Rotola has been stepping up and Jeff has struggled getting back in the groove so it's been a little bit everything that's kept him out of the lineup. It's hard to punish a guy for getting hurt, but when he's sitting if other guys step up it's hard to pull the trigger and go back to him while someone else is hot.......He is in the lineup DH'ing today tho, would love to see a nice day out of him......As for next weekend, it's extremely hard to win a series at Coastal, but we have the offense to get it done, their pitching is not what it has been in the past and if we can jump on them and take leads into the late innings we can keep McCully and those guys at the back end out of the game.....that's how you beat them. If they win today and we win it will be fun down there next weekend!
