In a seriousness, I wish our people would contact John Grisham and his people in Charlottesville: he's a Christian, a Baptist, loves baseball, and has millions of dollars. Worthington Stadium has a nice ring to it, but I'd like Grisham Stadium even better!

I doubt we'd insult Worthington like that. You don't take the name away from someone you're honoring. Maybe Grisham Field at Worthington stadium or something like that, but you don't insult the man who built the program.

Worthington field at Grisham Stadium would work, too.

Haven't both the football stadium and the Religion building been renamed over the years?

My dad has his info. I played at his fields he built at Cove Creek. He was the official score keeper and raked the fields in between games. Howie Long was the coach against us....it was a pretty bizarre day. Anyways my pops started talking baseball with him and the Yankee's back when Mantle played was his favorite team. So my dad called Bobby Richardson while with him and they were able to talk.

Long story short, he know's about LU...my father talked to him about it for a while but he was more informed with the Hillcats as he seems to follow professional baseball a little more close

Great stories, HMO. Grisham and I went to the same Baptist church in Oxford when I was going to Ole Miss: he and his wife even worked the nursery there. I think he had a son who was a walk-on for UVa's baseball team years ago. When I was going to UVa, Howie Long and I went to the same barber shop. I saw him one time at the Subway when I was dropping the top on my Jeep before heading back to Lynchburg. His wife and kids were inside ordering subs, and he was sitting in his Range Rover the whole time taking on his cell phone.

He was the one that gave the 4or5 millions dollars to build UVA's stadium and help keep the sport when it was on the chopping block. His son played there and I see him sitting in a box at football games all the time. Great thought but I doubt he would do it.

The baseball facility has gotten some cosmetic (and useful) improvements:
Lights
New BullPens
New batter's eye with netting behind the existing fence to protect cars along Regents Pkwy
New Athletic Training facility in the fieldhouse

I think we're all reeling from the Crowder-Muckle Fieldhouse debacle (that thing ran so far behind schedule -- my older brother was a freshman in '97 and they were talking about it being completed 'soon'; it was finished the year I graduated in '03... and when it opened, only two seats in the luxury box gave you a view of the field).

The worst part about it is whoever was in charge of the planning had no vision...that is not really something that can be added on to and is virtually useless when we do decide to renovate

anyways John G didnt just help with the stadium he gave a lot to the athletic program too....remember when they were going to have to "cut scholarships from other programs" well they didnt

Grisham has done a lot for Virginia. Hopefully we will get some supporters like that for our Athletice Department soon. I know we have great support and great donors for the school but I can't wait until we have more financial support from the alumni than we have now. I try my best but I am a lowely soccer coach so I don't bring in the big bucks

Give it time, we're still only 38 years of age...millionaires dont come from every graduating class and we've only had a few classes that have been given enough time to reach that point....all this will happen in due time

Just think how much the LU baseball team could receive if he'd pack his lunch and stay away from Neighbor's Place every day from 1:30-2:00.

Grisham is too liberal to help out LU.

There aren't too many members of the plaintiff bar that would want to help us out. Ambulance chasers that they are.

This would be a lot easier if I can find a publisher for my book.
