just wanted to give some details from my perspective.
young players played great. 3 freshmen starting in infield. several times they could have blinked or kicked one but were sharp. on double steal had runner but slid into glove and ball came out. made ole miss use 5 of best pitchers. lots of compliments from ole miss fans. they know they dodged one. several GREAT defensive plays, double plays, catches running into wall, diving catches. pitchers were very good. played #5/6 team even into 8th. LEGITIMATELY. south alabama has been to ncaa regionals 24 times in the last 36 years. they were a strong team. i think this group was much stronger than the teams we opened with last year.THIS TEAM MADE A VERY GOOD SHOWING.
i travelled 1,000 miles.to see how they would do. it was worth evey mile. i don't have the front row carolina tickets for the first time in 10 years, but have a new team to follow.
if you weren't there you missed a good time.
great games boys!

Flames Capture Coca-Cola Classic Title
Locked in a pitcher’s duel, Jeff Jefferson’s infield single in the eighth inning plated P.J. Jimenez with the winning run, as the Liberty Flames downed the Mercer Bears, 3-2, Sunday morning in the sixth game of the Coca-Cola Classic in Mobile, Ala. The Flames captured the Coca-Cola Classic title later in the day, as host South Alabama defeated Ole Miss.

With its third straight victory, Liberty runs its record to 3-1, while Mercer falls to 1-2. The Flames win the 2009 Coca-Cola Classic Crown after posting a 2-1 mark in the tournament and winning their head-to-head contest with South Alabama, who also had a 2-1 record in the mark.
