JB truly thinks that there is nothing wrong with where things are at and with Toman himself. Think about this, they both come from South Carolina, know many of the same coaches, scouts, people etc. So, when getting input from his "baseball" people on how things are going etc, all of those people are friends with both - and of course there wont be anything negative said. Unless you step outside of normal conversations and try to get more honest input on what other scouts etc think and see, then the perception will always be that "Yea, he's the guy you want, they are just having bad luck or struggling this year". It just seems like everything is always rationalized with Toman, lack of coaching, players not producing, up and down seasons (Well it's all about recruiting anyway - it's the players fault) (side note - there are 2 other former SEC assistants that are recruiting AND coaching and getting it done with lesser facilities and money - Raccuia and Goff), Toman having a bad image with other administrators/alumni/coaches/etc, pinning kids against dugouts, making fun of Liberty lifers for tearing up at hall of fame stuff (eh, well he's from SEC, old school, tough guy).thepostman wrote:Hate to break it to you, but JB has already been very successful at this level and a higher level. He has done a tremendous job so far at LU. I am sure when the dust settles, there will be a discussion and the right thing will be done. JB and Toman may be great friends, but when all is said and done, it is a business and I am confident that any decision made will be made with the best interest for LU as the priority.jinxy wrote:Couldnt disagree more. Both clearly involve the chancellor having to override the ad and/or coach. I dont want to get off in this whole mess. Jb really is in a tough spot. I dont know what tomans win percentage is but its gotta be pretty high. Its not easy to pull the plug on those numbers even if the schedules were soft. I dont think toman was a failure, i just think hes taken us as far as he can. Sometimes change is better for everyone
JB is only in a tough spot if he can't be a true professional and separate professionalism with personal friendships. I am in a position now where I am supervising people I have been friends with for years. Sometimes they do something in a way that isn't appropriate. I correct them professionally and we are still cool personally. Sure, its not always easy, but he has to be able to be able to make the tough calls if he wants succeed at this level and higher for that matter.
This is not aimed at postman, but I have to say this is the most immature thread that I have read on the FF. I am not defending Toman or anyone else here, because I don't really care about anything, but what is best for LU. But the personal attacks here and silly comments, on a public forum are very funny on one hand but seriously sad in reality. My .02.
Basically, what I'm saying is the rationalization of Toman isn't so much on the friendship, so no reason to get hung up on that. It's basically b/c there is a legitamite feeling that he is the right guy! So, if no move is made, don't think it's an unprofessional move or anything for a friend, feel free to debate whether he is the right person for the job or not....
