Just very frustrating. Were rolling and hardly used any pitchers through the first 2 games. Could have been in great shape for Saturday but blow another game to CCU. We have outplayed them 3 games this year, why do we keep blowing leads against them???

If Toman were not the head coach next year, (I hate that this has to be a topic but at this point barring something magical its gonna need to be considered) who would you bring in to replace him? And the answer isnt "anybody else" because not everybody can be a Division I baseball coach...

There are plenty of people that would be interested in coming to Liberty to coach baseball. We just have to be willing to listen to the right advisers and make a good hiring decision. I'm convinced though that he'll get another year, even though he'll be a lame duck coach next year.

We've had the lead or been tied in 3 of the 4 games against them this year and blew the lead. In every game the bullpen was mishandled.

I guess naming names since the season is still going on would be tampering potentially?

Royer. Should have never got replaced and this would be a chance to admit a mistake was made and fix it. The guys a great coach... (I would even be happy if a new guy could talk Royer in to coming back as his main assistant)

Not at all. I just don't know the names. I just know Liberty is a very attractive job in every sport. I also know people who know more baseball than I do. We've got Sid Bream, Tim Teufel, and a few other former major leaguers that have connections to the program in the last 3-5 years. Those guys know people. I doubt it'd happen, but I'd love Tim Teufel to be the coach of Liberty University.

And, on a game related note, we've got two innings left and we haven't given Swanson or Beakler the ball all tournament. Those are seniors. That's a completely classless move on Toman's part. I wonder if he'll even do the post game interview after this game.

I don't see how anybody would want to play for this guy. One of the knocks against Royer before he left was that the athletic department polled his players and many of them wouldn't suggest Liberty to current recruits. Four years later and I've got to think players now wouldn't suggest recruits to play for Toman.

At least Swanson is getting in the game. I hate Dane is getting screwed though. The kid gave Liberty University six years of his life and our coach doesn't even have the decency to give him an inning in his last conference tournament.

Thats fair...I come from a family that is big on specific answers to questions so when you said what you said that came into play in my mind. Im sure that this would be a very attractive job, especially to guys who are looking for a chance as a head coach. Who wouldnt want to play for a former Major Leaguer life Tim Teufel though...the name is still very fresh in the minds of Liberty fans (Shawn had a stellar time after he was converted to pitcher) and it would make a pretty nice splash to recruits because he knows what it takes to get to "the show".

the job has to be more attractive than it was 4 years ago. Since that time the scoreboard, lights, bullpens, backstop, and outfield walls have all been re-done. I think this team is going to look a lot different next year between the graduating seniors and several of the juniors that are probably going to be drafted. I didn't hear anyone with anything good to say about Toman in the stands last night when i was at the CSU game, and that was all parents talking. I dont know, i mean parents have a lot of issues with the coaches a lot of times. There just seems to be too much smoke for their not to be some fire. I have to admit, Toman has been a dissappointment to this point when you factor in we are still the 2nd best team in the conference and were like 2-14 or something against Coastal under toman, that is pathetic.

With connections like Teufel and Bream, and the financial resources, there is really no excuse y'all shouldn't have a top quality manager.

I'm shocked, and pleased, at how G-W scrapped their way into Saturday. We probably make a quick exit tomorrow to CCU, but it is something for our program to build on with a young roster.

To take another look at the question, "Are we better now than four years ago?" let's look at appearances in the championship game of the conference tournament:

Royer: 4 out of 5 years in the championship game. Took a team that had won 17 games the year before to within one game of regionals. Was in the winner take all game twice.

Toman: 2 out of 4 years in the championship game. Never had a rebuilding year. Was in the winner take all game his first year with Royer's players.

I think the decision to make a change from Royer was the right one. I think he built a program that needed rebuilding, did a great job with that, and someone else was needed to take it to the next level. I just think we picked the wrong guy to take us to that next level.

I am now fully on the fire Toman bandwagon as if I wasn't already. This is ridiculous. I was following live stats during a highschool graduation and the fact that Dane Beakler, whom I know personally to not only be a great guy but pretty darn good pitcher, did not see the mound the whole tourney tells me that Toman plays favorites. he is like Bobby Cox on steroids when it comes to managing a pitching staff. I don't claim to know baseball well enough to coach at the DI level but as a Fan i can definitely tell something is wrong.

From a baseball coaching perspective, i'd say that sending a pitcher who has already pitched 8 innings out on the mound after a rain delay is a fireable offense.

It doesn't matter, that's just plain STUPID.
#348598
I was really impressed with Baker today, knowing we had the possibility of 3 straight games if we lost to CCU I think it was a good call to leave Baker in even after the rain delay, no use in bringing in Evans or Swanson if its likely you would have to use them in games to come especially after CCU tied it up 2-2. disappointment that Niggli struggled early against G-Webb and It seemed our confidence took a hit after losing to Coastal and affecting our playing in the second game, im surprised Storm put in Kimmer instead of Evans after taking Niggle out...that was a due or die situation but Kimmer and Swanson did their job at the end, just wasnt meant to be...lots of hurt from fielding errors on Ty Bream and Mattie Williams in the second game but hopefully the returning players will learn from this and come out with a big yr next yr.

I'm also on the "fire Toman" bandwagon...he seems to have the skills to recruit players very well (especially jr college transfers) but doesnt have the skills to coach them to victory against a tough team, so many times this year we lost games on coaching/pitcher changes mistakes

you are such a tough guy natural. does it make you feel good ripping me? im sure it makes you feel good we lost! you are a great fan for sure  . all you do have ever done is rip the coaching staff and suck up to your buddy royer. im sure you will disapprove if your other pal delmonico is not hired as well. i have never said toman was perfect and after this year, my faith in toman has waned for sure. He will get one more year im sure, but i think Barber may demand some changes with assistants. a tough end to the year for sure. the team did not hit well, we made errors in key spots of games, and some bad in game decisions were made by the coaching staff. the biggest bright spot was our starting pitching. Some changes need to occur.

Year in a nutshell - above average to excellent starting pitching, inconsistent to poor relief pitching, inconsistent to poor hitting except for Williams and D Bream, lack of any power bats, some injuries, and poor fielding. Sure gives the coach fewer options to manage the team.

Next year in a nutshell - lose our 2 best starters and 2 relievers (23-8) and best hitter D. Bream (.356). I like to think we'll have a bounce back year. However, CCU has basically the whole team back if LaStella and Meo don't get drafted.

Royer was definitely not the guy to take us to the next level. Not sure Toman is the answer either, I have seen a few things that I don't like at all. It takes a special person to recruit the right kind of players to LU and not the easiest job in the world. However, the right person can get it done, and I hope we find him. I have confidence in the administration, they have done a good job so far and I am sure it will continue.
