They score again with another wall shot. 18-7.

Not sure why he took Evans out and didn't give him one more inning for the win. This guy has a 9 era coming in, and is getting shelled again.

Out of the inning 18-7. We need to score to keep the streak of innings with runs alive.

Bases loaded and 2 out in the bottom of the 5th and a wild pitch brings in the run and keeps the streak of runs in innings going at 5.

LU is held scoreless finally and then HPU with a 3 run homer to make it 19-10 LU.

Record for most combined runs in a tourney game!

I'm probably heading to Asheville Saturday. I'm definitely going if we win tomorrow.

It's clear why he pulled Evans. The game was more than at hand at that point. We will need him to throw some innings Saturday. He had labored through 4 difficult innings already. We should have saw from the past just how much pitching you need to get through this tournament and win. It's so dissappointing that we are missing 2 of our best pitchers and best stick because I really think we have a chance to win it without them, but with them we were just as good as Coastal this year. Especially considering Umberger made just one start and Swanson has been gone for a month. It's actually pretty impressive what they have done this year with the total loss of your ace Umberger, your # 2 or 3 in Swanson, your best stick Bream, and substantial time with Jefferson

Yup, smart move by coach. Put in an arm that is one of the last off the bench, offense/pitcher guys, and chew through some innings. Evans with some steam left for the weekend will be a HUGE asset for us.

Haha, I'm plenty a homer. Haven't you heard me say things like, "Come on Zane, throw a strike." Or, "a walk would be nice" to open the inning.

Patrick is a good guy though, and the help was certainly appreciated in that mess, and it was nice that Ratturd beat Coastal because it completely screws this bracket over.

I'm with you though, I hope we can keep the runs coming in the next couple days..
Rooster Cogburn wrote:Evans gets in some more trouble in the top of the 4th, but gets out clean again.

OK, now Nick has invited the Radford play by play guy into the booth, and is being pals with him. He even congratulated Ratturd for the win. Come on Nick, be a HOMER like me.

LU 3 straight hits off the top of their half a frame and score yet again. No outs 2 on. We have scored every time we have been up in the first 4.

15-3 LU

I guess since I'm here I'll start posting some random thoughts and goings on..

First off, obviously a big win for the guys tonight. LU set a new Big South record for most runs scored in the tournament a year ago (55), and could be on their way to eclipsing that mark this year. The FLames have put up 30 runs in the first two ballgames. Also, I was informed tonight that every game in this tournament so far has had at least one team post ten or more hits.. Kinda sums up the pitching scene in the conference this year doesn't it?

Other records tonight, Liberty and High Point combined to score the most runs ever in a Big South Tournament game (30). That broke the old mark of 27, which was set twice and BOTH times included Liberty. Once many years ago against UNC Greensboro, and the other time came on the day we do not speak of when the Flames lost to UNC Asheville in the title game in 2006, 16-11.

Liberty's 20 runs were also the most scored in a game this year. That total also ties the Big South Tournament single-game record, which has now happened on four occasions.

Injury Update: Casey Brown's right hand was heavily taped prior to tonight's game. Brown injured his thumb against Radford Wednesday night when he dove after a ball in foul ground down the right field line. I'm told Thursday'sX-rays were negative. I haven't actually seen the thumb, but I heard the swelling was significant, so I'm not sure if he'll make a return this week or not.

No secret the Flames are down arms-big time. I've heard rumblings Andrew Wilson may be the guy Friday night, but that is in no way for certain. He's not even warmed up for a game yet though, and seems to be one of the very few arms the Coach Towman trusts right now. Although, Wilson is supposed to be the closer. Who knows? Perhaps, Tyler Light could face his first Big South foe of the year. I wouldn't be against it; he's looked good the last two times out, especially at Duke.

It was quite entertaining watching Bobby Gagg blow a gasket today in Coastal's 11-7 loss to Radford. After having Radford down to it's last strike, Gagg proceeded to blow the save and completely lose his mind on the mound. On one play at third base, Gagg was literally jumping up and down and "hulking up" after an umpire called a Radford base runner safe. (Gagg obviously thought differently.) Supposedly, I hear Gagg was given a "talking to" after the game.. uh, yeah.

Ok, that's all for now kids. Remember, game time is at 7pm tomorrow night, presuming the Big South isn't running late on another awards ceremony. Pre-game begins on 90.9 FM in Lynchburg at 6:45. And of course, the game is available online at www.libertyflames.com or www.thelightonline.com.

Now, time for me to hit the sack and try to digest this late meal from TGI Friday's... Now THAT Bobby, was a bad call!

Is this seriously the most confusing bracket in history? We are the only ones without a loss, right? Shouldn't we be in the championship?

This is the old bracket set-up that the NCAAs used back when there were 6-team regionals...it does get confusing when the #1 seed loses their 2nd game like what happened with Coastal...

To put it in simple terms, LU has to only win 2 games (and they can still lose once) while everyone else has to win 3 more times in order to win the title.

Coastal or HPU - To win the title, either one of these teams has to win their game this morning, beat LU tonight at 7:00, then that would put them in the 2nd game tomorrow, where they'd have to beat whoever is left after the first game on Saturday...

WU or RU - To win the title, either one of these teams would have to win their game this afternoon, beat LU tomorrow in the first game tomorrow, then either beat LU again in the Saturday afternoon game (if LU was still undefeated going into the game) or CCU/HPU (if either one is able to beat LU tonight).

LU - LU will definitely play tonight against the CCU/HPU winner, and they will definitely play in the first game tomorrow agains the WU/RU winner. If they win both of those, they are the champs. If they lose either one of those, they play Saturday afternoon against what ever team beat them...If they lose both of those, then both teams that beat them will face each other in the 2nd game on Saturday.

Today's Schedule:

11:00 - CCU vs. HPU
3:00 - WU vs. RU
7:00 LU vs. CCU/HPU winner

Tomorrow's Schedule:

1:00 - LU vs. WU/RU winner
approx. 4:30 (if. nec) - Whatever two teams are still alive...if LU is the only one left, they are the champs..

See the difference between CCU and LU is we lose to Radford when it doesnt matter...and you lose to them during the BSC Tourny

You've said this too early for my liking. Hopefully around 10 or 11 tonight it will be worth saying.

Greetings from my undisclosed hotel in Asheville, NC...

Just a couple of quick notes.. Tyler Light will get the call tonight for the Flames. The senior is 1-3 on the year with a 6.90 ERA, but he has looked good in his last two starts. At Duke last week he shut down the Blue Devils for 7 innings allowing an unearned run on 6 hits, while striking out 8. Light pitched pretty well at Virginia, though the line doesn't show it (5 earned runs on 8 hits).

He'll likely face Austin Fleet for Coastal, which beat High Point this morning 8-4 in an elimination game. That's good news for the Flames; lifetime against Liberty Fleet is 0-2 with an 8.18 ERA. He did not pitch in the series at Coastal this season.

Also, a quick injury update on Casey Brown. I'm told his injured right thumb looks a little better than yesterday. He may give it a go tonight in right field.

Radford will take on Winthrop in another elimination contest beginning at 3pm. The winner of that one automatically moves on to tomorrow. If Liberty beats Coastal tonight, the Flames will have to only win one game against the Winthrop/Radford winner, while they will have to beat LU twice.

If Liberty should lose, it will face the winner of RU/WU at 1pm tomorrow, and a winner-take-all title game will follow against Coastal.

Pre-game tonight begins at 6:45. First pitch at 7pm on 90.9 FM WWMC Lynchburg. Or, you can listen online at www.libertyflames.com and www.thelightonline.com.

The way I see it we MUST win tonight. If not the lack of arm depth and all the injuries will likely catch up with us.

WU also now takes the single game tournament record for runs scored (I joked with Numbah1 a little earlier that if we had hit our extra point last night we'd have the record)

First pitch between LU and CCU has been pushed back to 7:20.. Thank the Eagles of Winthrop, who decided to fully humiliate Radford. We'll be on the air in about 5 mins or so..
